Re: Gypsy split
I actually put "Gypsy split" when I moved it, but I guess it only moved and ignored that title. Fixed. I'm not sure of a better title that indicates without being inflammatory in of itself. More than the thread I mean. I imagine this might get nuked or locked anyway, just didn't want it poisoning the other thread.

I don't think so, even at the most heated part of our argument it didn't get out of control.Hobie-wan wrote:I actually put "Gypsy split" when I moved it, but I guess it only moved and ignored that title. Re: Gypsy split
I knew a gypsy girl who could do the splits. Man, that was a good summer...
On topic I've found that hating gypsies or people perceived to be gypsies is one of the last bastions of acceptable racism in Britain. We have awful but very popular TV shows about them (that are roundly criticised), or more precisely, what the tabloids think gypsies are like.
Personal story but when I worked for a massive multinational chain store (name rhymes with Fisney Bore) inside a huge shopping mall, we actually had a gypsy button for stock losses and staff were told to basically stand watch over any that entered the store. I was shocked and even brought up how we'd be sued into the next century if we profiled other people as such. Management laughed it off.
Thing was, if wasn't just that store it was endemic throughout that mall even though when you do loss prevention training you're told that one of the groups most likely to steal are middle aged women. Did we have a middle aged woman button? Of course not.
What a weird topic to be brought up anyway.

Why do I suddenly feel the urge to watch Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame?

Re: Gypsy Split
That video is shit, but I do believe people have the right to critique cultures/religions/nations if they feel like it, as long as they don't allow that to get in the way of how they treat people as individuals (basically, you have to give people a chance to show you what they really are, people are innocent till proven guilty, regardless if 90% of people you met already from the same background might have all had that behavior you despise)Luke wrote:Perfectly fitting for the likes of mjmjr
