the only album I've heard in full is Closed Casket. It's good.

I have been listening to DMX for the past few days and I must say that I remember why I LOVED him so much in the late 90's. His debut "Its Dark and Hell is Hot" may be one of my favorite Hip Hop albums ever. It's not in my top 10 per say, but definitely top 25. The big problem I had with him, which lead to me (and probably everyone else) ignoring him is that he was just EVERYWHERE for like 3 or 4 years straight. And in that same time frame he released five solo albums and a few Ruff Ryders compilations. Plus being featured on nearly every major rappers album at the time. I just got burned out.

After the release of "....And There Was X" I really didn't want to hear anymore. Rap was starting to hit the "Ballin" trend where everyone was talking about how rich they were and everything else that Cash Money was preaching. So, I got out of rap for a while. I would still listen to my favorite artists, but even a lot of them jumped on the "Ballin" bandwagon. I remember hearing DMX's "The Great Depression" and "Grand Champ" and just couldn't get into them. I know his career kind of came to a screeching halt after that and he didn't release any new albums for a while. I didn't even know about "Year of the Dog....Again" until very recently (which I still haven't heard), but I heard it isn't great. Swizz Beatz has said that the new DMX album he is working on is really good, but we'll see.

I just started listening the "The Great Depression" and "Grand Champ" and they are no where near as bad as I once thought, but nothing will top "It's Dark and Hell is Hot". Maybe it's the fact that I'm getting older and to the point where I'm disconnected from new artists, but it's hard for me to get excited for someone the same way that I did when I first heard DMX.

Always wanted to be the whistle blower for DMX concerts. Seriously. That guy has a lot of whistles in his beats.

Joking aside, isn't DMX a major asshole? I heard he's a great performer, but when it comes to being a human being, he's pretty much a dick. Like, crack smoking, woman beating, gun toting, self absorbed, violence fueled prick. Not that it takes away from his music (still I wouldn't rate him in the top 100 emcees) but I don't care for the guy.

I've honestly never been a fan of DMX. I've just never been into the sort of gruff, aggressive delivery. There were some early tracks w/ pretty good beats though. I don't know if I ever gave him a real chance really. I just sort of decided I didn't think he was for me, so never gave him much attention.

The last time I heard him he was doing a prayer on one The Game's albums. DMX is interesting as I've heard he's some kind of preacher now... yet keeps getting himself in to trouble.

Yeah, I have heard that about him too. I think he actually got kicked out of Ruff Ryders due to being a prick. It apparently caught up with him because he has been in and out of jail, like Luke said addicted to crack, and shunned by a large part of the rap community. I think he had some crazy mental break for a while. I could be completely wrong, but I heard he got locked up in a psych ward for a while.

Let's not forget the infamous airport arrest where he stole an SUV high on cocaine and said he was a member of the FBI.
