That Gawker essay is so wrong headed. Better for people who enjoy football and like rooting for NFL teams to become vocal proponents of change than to simply boycott football until change "just happens". Fans absolutely bear some responsibility for the prevailing culture of the league, and they are in a position to change it by doing more than tuning out.J T wrote:There are worse reasons to be mad at NFL football besides their dogged unwillingness to let go of outdated racist iconography.

We aren't at the point where we cite Gawker as a "news site" are we?
Gawker, Kotaku, Jezebel, Deadspin, and the like are clickbait sites with stories from other news sites. I like them for what they are, but as far as journalism goes...no.
As e-journalism, okay, but that says nothing.

No, but as a large media platform, their op-ed pieces can be worthy of discussion.

We should talk about how soundly the Seahawks will be defeating them during MNF.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

I never understood why they ever changed from the Anaheim Angels. I don't know anyone that thinks of Anaheim as Los Angeles. *shrugs*Luke wrote:Can't agree. I'm pretty sure Washington has bigger problems than trying to figure out if their football team name is offensive to certain people or not. But knowing them, they'll go the obvious route and change it to something dumb like the Washington Windmills.
You're all thinking "They're not stupid enough to change the team name to something like that."
Need I remind you of this:

I rest my case.

Re: FCC may ban Redskins nickname from TV
While I don't want to defend the "Redskins" name, I don't think it would be appropriate for the FCC to ban the name from broadcasts. I assume that this means any Redskins related news would be unable to be reported without awkward substitutes like "the popular NFL team from Washington." BLEH ON THAT.
The FCC serves some very legitimate purposes, but I don't like it when they play censor. But this is way too much of a political hot potato: I doubt they will actually do anything.

I'm of the opinion that words are words, and that it's ridiculous to ban them from television.
And yes, I'm including curse words. But then, I know I'm in the minority here.

Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

I'm of the opinion that words are used for reason and aren't simply words and people have the right to be offended by certain words given the context.KalessinDB wrote:I'm of the opinion that words are words...
If Jason Mewes called me a "Disgusting little cunt" I would laugh. Not so much from other people.
Just be civil.
