Console patch sizes and connection speeds are different subjects. Its obvious why patch sizes are bigger for PS3. Most developers suck at making PS3 games, its no secret that only the most talented programmers get the most out of the PS3. The dev tools aren't user friendly at all and Sony has done a poor job educating developers on how to use the tools. So companies rush the product out the door without proper QA to meet deadlines. Leaving major fuck ups and bugs in the games. Makes you wonder how developers made games in the past without consoles having game patching capability.JJJ wrote:There is a hugely noticable difference on patch times 360 vs PS3. I tried Pain at my brother's house. Small, PSN game right? Ok, well let me tell you it did 4 waves of updates for this thing! After each download bar finished, then a install bar started! Oh my... I'm not kidding, my brother was sick of waiting and was going to reboot the PS3. I'd say it was about 15 minutes on his 5mb connection.
Next, Warhawk. I would have expected a long patch time for this but it was actually faster than Pain! Still a good 5-10 minutes.
Next, at my friend's house he boots up Super Stardust HD. Another small PSN game. 250mb patch download??? He didn't even bother waiting, just canceled.
On my 360, I've literally never waited more than 30 seconds for a patch to download. Even on my old 1.5mbps connection. I'm not sure exactly why this is the case, but there is a definite difference - no doubt.
So who won the "most PROVEN powerful" award PS3 vs. 360?

Ok, fair enough. The point is that there is a really 'PC-feel' with PS3 games. Installing, patching, installing patches. I would have expected microsoft to have this type of style - since they come from the PC side. But they've done a great job. Updates are extremely quick and efficient on X360, for whatever reason. I like that.
I don't want to mess around with patching when I turn on a console. Thats one of the main reasons I stopped PC gaming.

I just came across this article on G4 and thought it pertained to this thread. http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/6 ... l#readmore So I guess in the end its up to the developer how powerful the hardware is. Treasure is a good example of this. When I first played Gunstar Heroes I had to look again to make sure it wasn't a SNES game. the mode-7 on the title screen was pretty crafty.
