Apparently I'm the only one playing FPS's these days.
Woo! Beat System Shock! I had to turn down the CPU cycles to nearly nothing in the final battle; apparently the materialization of SHODAN is the one timing routine in the game that's terrible and based off of CPU speed, rather than absolute time like everything else. When I was running Dosbox at Max I was getting 5-10 seconds before I lost, which was not nearly enough time to kill SHODAN even if you hit every shot. Turning it down made things reasonable.
Fun game all in all. Once I got the Skorpion I was able to turn on the Energy Shield full time and blow past enemies, which was a good thing since that was about the same point where I stopped having access to automatic med bays. I'm glad I had several logic probes available near the end, as the wire puzzles got maddening at that point. Those puzzles were a real pain in the ass as time went on and they got more complicated because you don't really get enough feedback to do more than just trying things out randomly. At least with the "form the bridge" puzzles you could use trial and error to figure out how the nodes connect with each other.
Something fun I discovered in the ending cinematic: when they show the hacker falling back into old habits the file he pulls up is a secret preview of Terra Nova. It shows the basic suit from Terra Nova and describes the features. Check it out:
What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

Ooh, I've been meaning to play that. Are you using SystemShock-Portable? If so, can you share your configs?
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Yeah, I was using Portable. I set it up to use the mouselook mod (massive improvement control wise) and then the only other config changes I made were to make sure it wasn't using any filters and I edited the autoexec so the game would auto exit when I quit out of System Shock, rather than dropping to the Dosbox shell.TSTR wrote:Ooh, I've been meaning to play that. I've been playing a lot of Borderlands 2, and Borderlands before that. But neither were single player campaigns.dsheinem wrote:The 60+ hours I've sunk into Destiny in the past three weeks suggests otherwiseMrPopo wrote:Apparently I'm the only one playing FPS's these days.

Singleplayer and multiplayer for both Borderlands and Borderlands 2 for me. I just haven't been posting about it here. I'm nearly done with the Captain Scarlett DLC though.noiseredux wrote:I've been playing a lot of Borderlands 2, and Borderlands before that. I just found out the Marathon trilogy got open sourced (engine and assets) and has a PC port. I'll have to pick it up at some point, though I'm going to hold off until I've done some of this month's Together Retro.

No, although other games have taken up my time, I've been playing Riddick. Got the Eyeshine (night vision) now, and walked around posing as a guard before giving Abbott what he deserved. Now I'm in a series of large containers as I was sent to the mines.MrPopo wrote:Apparently I'm the only one playing FPS's these days.

I'm going through the doom series right now. About to start Doom II just have to get through Episode 4 which they added on with the Ultimate version of doom.
