I've always liked Mothra, myself.

Honestly though, I was kinda hoping for a slightly more obscure choice like Kumonga or Manda, just because I think an updated version of a giant spider and a creature that's essentially a Chinese/Japanese dragon would look pretty damn sweet.

Okay, I confess. I really just want to see a flying chinese dragon. Seriously Hollywood, why haven't you done this yet?

I would be interested to see how they would treat Mothra, as she's the protector of earth. Yet Godzilla is now their "savior". I would assume it would be a lot like "Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster" from 1964. Perhaps Godzilla and Mothra (or another Kaiju) get into a fight, but then have to team up to take down Ghidorah.

The little teaser (name of the research organization) in Godzilla 2014 gives me a little hope we'll see Mothra in a future Legendary film.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what they'd do with her at this point either other than turning her into some sort of monster-backup. They've clearly made Godzilla the good guy, so they can't really put them at odds unless they 180 her purpose entirely and why do that when you already have all those nice antagonistic creatures from cannon to work with? Or they could just leave her out entirely, which would just make me sad.

But hey, at least she got a flash of her name in print in the film (brief as it was), so maybe I should be hopeful.

BAH! Mothra sucks. She got her ass kicked in every movie I saw her in. I'll admit that I haven't seen her movies, but still...

I don't know about Manda, but I think Kumonga would work pretty well with this new Godzilla. Though how hard is it to make a giant spider work in a monster movie?

Perhaps Mothra could be created in the lab in this movie and cause a rampage during her growing pains? Godzilla could bat the Mothra larva around until turns into her full form and calms down. Afterward, a new threat emerges and Godzilla and Mothra have to team up to defeat it.

Eh, just spitballing here.

I've been thinking about a re-imagining of Biollante, and found an article that agreed with my thoughts. I can't find it now, but it seemed to touch on the fact that Biollante would fit in well with this new Man vs. Nature thing they have going on. I would much rather see Biollante over somebody like Hedorah.

No matter how much we want King Ghidora, I think it would be wrong to toss the King in the second movie of a trilogy. They should save the best for last.

Do you think they will continue with Ford's story or try something else? It's not often that we get true continuations in the Godzilla franchise. The Heisei era aside, most films are only one-offs, maybe two. Even the Heisei films didn't quite match up as well as I would have liked.

Not sure how I missed this one, but this is a fantastic short film by Studio Ghibli.
My only complaint is that I want MORE.

(Kind of reminds me of NIN - Year Zero)

Today I found out the first Gamera movie was released and Americanized as Gammera The Invincible.

Additional scenes were added but at least they got Japanese voices to do the dubbing, as well as some of the voice actors that would go on to do Speed Racer. I'd still recommend the MST3K treatment however.

I still have yet to see the Legendary Godzilla, so if I say anything wrong, correct me.

Mothra isn't one I'm going to expect proper treatment out of if Godzilla is the good guy in these movies. (Really though, I never was too big of a fan of good guy Godzilla. Always preferred Godzilla doing his own thing for his own reason.) Teaming up is a possibility, but otherwise it would just be another monster to fight.

I want more Gamera movies though. Gamera is the shit.

Bringing the thread back for the Kaijuly Roarth Marathon (yes, that's the name) on El Rey Network. They're showing the Showa Godzilla movies uncut. I saw Gojira, after that came the American version (Godzilla), and today I saw Terror of Mechagodzilla. It may be an unpopular opinion but that American Godzilla wasn't too bad, only because they managed to blend in the new American content pretty well to match the original Japanese footage. As for Mechagodzilla 2 (my name for it), it kinda sucked they left all the fighting for the last 20 minutes, but it was still good.
