Your favorite shaders or image enhancements?

Post by fuctfuct »

I have always liked the look of scale / hq / xbr shaders with scanlines. Mostly use 2x since 5x, 4x or even 3x can over do it IMO. The only two emulators Ive ever used that can do it are MAME Plus! (I use scale2x + real_scanlines.png) and Kega Fusion (scale2x + 25% scanlines)

Started messing about with Libretro and came accross 2xbr-crt-hyllian.cgp

What are some of your favorites?

EDIT: I think this is my favorite shader now.. No scale effect but it love it.

NTSC shaders ftw. Can't stand what those scaling algorithms do to the picture.

I like the NTSC RGB filter. I know a lot of people like to try and recreate the look of a crt. It's pretty neat.

The way i see it though is if you had the option back then to run your system with something that made it look like it does with say hq4x... A lot of people would have.

I suppose I can see how some folks like that look, but there's too many false positives in the algorithms for me, to the point where some details get obliterated. Some versions of xBR can look alright though, but I still prefer not using them. Games have this like watercolored onto the screen look to me whenever I mess with those types of scalers.

Gameboy - playing PS1 games on an LCD sim with a gameboy border makes me really happy.

I should mention that I do like the AA+Natural Vision shader for 3D PS1 games.

My favorite atm is the crt-royale shader. I haven't messed with the settings yet. It looks really good on the default settings on my PC. However when I tried it on my 55 inch Plasma tv the lines were a little too noticeable so I'll have to figure out how to fix that.

I was actually going to try that today. I'm mostly using RetroArch v1.0.0.2 these days. It doesn't support it and i don't feel like upgrading to a dev build. What emulator do you use?
