Connecting PC (with HDMI) to HDTV 8m away.

Post by Niode »

I have a PC with a HD4870 (which means I get audio through HDMI as well as video which un-complicates things I guess) However the main problem is that the TV is 8m away from the PC. Now, a HDMI cable is going to cost me big bucks for that length.

Would I be better off sucking it up and getting a huge-ass HDMI cable.

OR getting a huge ass DVI cable (which obviously costs less) and then getting an adaptor to convert to HDMI. Would that cause any problems as far as audio? Since the HDMI out is converted from DVI anyway.

Opinions and thoughts anyone or even alternative choices?

It's a shame $ is a factor, otherwise you could spend $800 and go wireless!!!

Money is always a factor, why would I waste money needlessly. Having wireless HDMI would be such a waste for just my PC. Especially since it's only capable of outputting stereo sound from the graphics card.

If you look around online you can get them for like 20-30 bucks with shipping. Not sure about in UK though, I guess if you could find a place that ships to the UK then it'd work. Which unfortunately the sites i know of that sell 30 foot cables (which is actually almost 9m i think) don't ship to the UK >.<
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.

Try www.monoprice.com it's where I buy all my cables. I paid about less than $20 for a 12 foot HDMI a few weeks ago. I dunno about UK shipping though.

I've always bought cables from monoprice, and cheap ones off Amazon for all my HD and optical audio stuff, never had a problem. Don't waste the money on Monster, please.

Thanks for the replies guys. Anyone know of a decent (but fair priced) shop that ships to UK. The only ones I can find are on ebay and look to be dubious quality.

No dice. Only ship to US territories and Canada. :( The prices on there are mega cheap though! I'm jealous.

If you have a friend, have them help you out by getting it and shipping it to you.
