We had Open Office on our personal computer for several years. I thought it was OK, but my wife (i.e., the person who had to use it the most) hated it. We tolerated it because a retail copy of MS Office is so expensive, but when my firm provided us with the opportunity to purchase MS Office for a paltry $15, we jumped on it.lisalover1 wrote:The idea of paying anything - or at least, more than a few dollars for office applications in this day and age is laughable.

The licensing/technology fee we have where I'm at provides Office to students at no extra cost.Opa Opa wrote: Last I checked you got ~10% off buying from the university. All that covers is tax essentially.
You should be able to get Office 365 free though, as a student. (plenty of other stuff too if you sign up at Dreamspark, just mostly specialized tools)
Plenty of employers have the Home Use Program as well, if that'd apply.
If you've just looked at what's on the shelf at the campus bookstore though, you might miss what's actually available to you.
I would not go below Office 2007 at this point, given that the standard formats changed with that version (you can get the converters for XP/2003, but still).
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Wow, I had no idea that there were any formatting issues when outputting to an MS Office related format. I have used Open Office exclusively for many years, and as I said I have never personally had a complaint or issue. I'll admit when first making the switch there is a small adjustment period due to some of the tools being implemented differently.
I can see in some situations where a job has implemented a template specifically for MS Office how that may be an issue, I've had an occasion or two where I had to compensate for things like that, it wouldn't be prudent on a daily basis. I might still have an older version of MS Office laying around but it is probably pre 2007, so if everything has changed that wouldn't do you any good. Oh well, you have a lot of good info now in order to make an informed decision based on your needs.
@Kalessin, sorry for your loss. My condolences, I hope you find some solace in these tough times.

Solid black. Last I remember late 90's early 2000's. Went hand in hand with "power ties".dsheinem wrote:do you nean like solid black? when have they ever been in style...outside maybe weddings or the like?

Smile: My first appointment with my new therapist went well. It takes a long time to get there, and I have to plan my trip between classes, but it's going to be worth it in the end.
Another Smile: I spent most of the weekend at a friend's house! We watched the entire second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as the new episodes of Gravity Falls! We also messed around with the new Smash Bros. demo in multiplayer, and she totally kicked my butt as Villager. >_<

That said, Pokémon marathons heal all wounds. :3 Are you trying to teach her how to be the very best, like no one ever was?

Those nights where worry keeps you tossing and turning are just the worst. There's something about laying motionless that makes the mind overthink things.jinx wrote:Had a pretty fun weekend. The kid got to visit her BooBoo (my step-mom) and Kit dragged me to New Orleans for an all night walk around and do absolutely nothing. Met a new friend though who loves NIN and old monster movies just as much as I do though. I don't think I've talked that much since I left BestBuy...
Went shopping and bought lots of new clothes.
Spent money...
Kit's mother is paying for our entire Houston trip and then some.
Relative sent me a weird message this morning. She said that she was really worried about me because she had a dream I committed suicide last night. It's really strange, because I didn't get any sleep last night because I was up all night thinking about the decisions I've made up until this point.
Daughter is back home and we're having a Pokemon marathon.

I can't tell what's her favorite part of the show: Singing the theme song or Who's that Pokémon?lisalover1 wrote:Pokémon marathons heal all wounds. :3 Are you trying to teach her how to be the very best, like no one ever was?

Well, if you play Ash's Pokéball throw in reverse, he is catching it.jinx wrote:I can't tell what's her favorite part of the show: Singing the theme song or Who's that Pokémon?lisalover1 wrote:Pokémon marathons heal all wounds. :3 Are you trying to teach her how to be the very best, like no one ever was?

Ash couldn't even catch his own shadow. He's that bad.
