You make a compelling argument, but I can't be bothered to get into video game politics. The system does what it needs to for the cash that was put down on it. Let the lawyers work out the rest as it's really not our concern. You have a fairly loud vocal minority angry over having their code used which is why this dust up even is appearing, but you have to wonder exactly how wide spread the interest in it is. It's on them, the coders, to handle this however they want if they choose to or can afford to. For the end consumer, it's just about looking at the box, seeing what it claims to do, then the price sticker and making a decision based on that. I know one emulator in there used nintendo techincal documents that were jacked from their own site over a decade ago to be developed, so I have a sympathy issue at some level on this too. :)

Sounds like Hyperkin will have to respond pretty swiftly to this.

Also the word Copyleft makes it sound like copyright is being politicized and makes my eyes glaze over.

I'm wondering if I should buy a Retron 5 just in case the console gets pulled due to the copy right dilemma? Debating if the sound quality is any better on the Genesis side compared to the ATGames PlugnPlay unit. All those carts on one console is tempting!

I say get it, the system is worth it(especially if you have a way to output sound which i don't at the moment which sucks). I mean at least for me it saves a lot of space and gives access to stuff I wouldn't be able to play before(especially ones we didn't get that were put out for these systems...)

Update 2.1 is out, not much to it this time -

- Fixed bug causing certain button mapping configurations to prevent games from starting
- Fixed issue causing occasional video instability for some people storing saves on SD card

That's it, I don't know if fast cartridge loading has been re-enabled this time so if you want that it's best to stick with 2.0 Beta 6.

2.1 is here.

CRTGAMER: I've owned the Sega AT Games handheld and the sound at least when I tried Sonic2 on it was entirely better. The AT Games firecore emulator is an entirely different and piss poorly coded beast they refuse to do one ounce of bug fixing to now on like 4 revisions of it. The R5 tries to actually find and squash bugs shooting for actual accuracy as far as anyone is concerned.

If it by some sliver of a chance does get pulled or not, you should get it just because of what the capabilities are and how much it can do beyond your stock unit. It's worth it. I hate clones, but this thing I actually do enjoy using.

To be honest i would get the console just to play japan or US exclusive games, since im from Europe.
Yet i believe to be very expensive and with all this problems im not getting one any time soon.

To bad i sold my Super Famicom because i was expecting this :P

Looks like as of today, they have raised the price of the Retron 5 to $160 due to demand. First time I can recall that MSRP of a console goes up, twice now, instead of down.

Someone's gotta cover the cost of those impending "lawsuits" that is the complaint du jour at their Facebook, right? :P

The violation folks have a strong argument, but I highly doubt any of them have the means to take even a small company like Hyperkin to court.
