Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Really the gamestops around here have a really mixed bag of employees. There are the guys who hate their life/job and thrive of spreading their misery they usually last a few weeks. Then there are the guys that are helpful but can be a little pushy with their ideas of whats good and what is kiddy shit seems to be an abundance of them around here and they have to make a negative comment about every single game you pick up that they don't like .

There is only 1 out of the 5 stores around here that consistently hired good average human beings . Most of the other stores you will 50% of the time get your head bitten off for asking them not to pull case swaps, or buying a stack of games that are $5 or less each. Last experience I had I literally got yelled at for not buying a "New" Game because it was scratched and missing the manual . I don't mind shelf copies as long as they are in good shape but don't sell me something thoroughly used as "NEW".

I love condescending Gamestop employees. Despite appearances, I typically know way, way more about video games that they do, and I do not hesitate to gently correct them.

For example, I recently purchased a Wii game with a "M" rating (i.e., Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers). When I brought it to the register, the condescending Gamestop employee said, "Wow! You're buying the only "M" rated Wii game. I guess this one isn't for the kids!" I responded, "Yeah...They didn't make many besides this...and all of the Resident Evil games...and MadWorld...and Silent Hill...and both of the No More Heroes games...oh, yeah...and all the House of the Dead games...and Manhunt 2...and Cursed Mountain...and...and Dead Rising...but, yeah, other those, not too many." He was a bit shocked, and not at all amused. He has also refrained from any smart-ass comments in all subsequent visits.

Weird GameStop dude talked to me for waaaaay too long (like 20 minutes) last time I was there. I received quite the incredulous stare when I told him I had no plans to buy a Xbox One or PS4 any time soon. We did eventually find some common ground, as he had just picked up a Wii U. He then asked me if there were any Zelda games released for the platform yet. Apparently he had never played a Zelda game and was looking to start.

I must be lucky. I've never had any experiences with "evil Gamestop employees." Other than being annoyed by the usual sales pitches, everyone I've encountered has been rather friendly, helpful and cordial. Hell, before my local store closed down (I'm still a little bitter over that) the employees would go out of their way to look stuff up for you and used to ask the regulars if they wanted any of the posters. They'd even talk to me about upcoming games they'd think I'd like, and not in a "would you like to pre-order this?" kind of way. I actually miss those guys

I hope you told him all of the previous ones are on VC(or at least should be though it may be in wii mode where you'd find them) (heck there's even hyrule warriors and the new one coming soon )

I'm sure it has a lot to do with location, but even when I ask stores in California to ship a $1.99 game to an NC location, they usually oblige.

Yep, all the stores around me are great. Nice staff, they know I like cases and manuals so they try to hook it up, and friendly conversation about games.

GameStop has a store charge card now.

It seems to work just like most other store cards (like Best Buy, etc). Spend $500 or more and get 6 months no interest. You need GameStop Power Up Rewards. Pro Members get 15k points and Basic Members get 5k points for signing up. It's offered through Comenity Capital Bank, I've never heard of them.

Gamestop doesn't seem to be the only one who uses them for that type of thing. Paypal's credit card uses them, and hsn does so too(there might be more noticeable ones but eh this is all I see at the moment). Though I'm not going to do it, 15k points does sound lovely but eh I can rack that up in no time just going there from time to time

The points are really the only reason to do it. I mean, for example, if you wanted to buy a PS4 with a game and and extra controller there's plenty of other places to get a 6 month no interest deal. PC Richards, Best Buy, Amazon, plenty of places have such cards.

I don't feel like doing the math, but I wonder if the points you'd get from an Amazon card would equate to more money then what you'd be able to redeem with 15k GameStop Rewards points. I forget how many Amazon points equals how many dollars, and I wanna say that 5k GameStop points gets you a $5 coupon off a used game.
