My 6 year old son has been playing the hell out of Mario Kart DS since i bought it for him for Xmas.
My question therefore, is it worth me getting him Mario Kart Advance or is it much of the same?

Mario Kart Advance is to Mario Kart DS is the same as Super Mario Kart is to Mario Kart 64. If you have a N64 I would buy Mario Kart for that as it is similar to the DS one, and one of the best in the series IMHO.

It's a fun game and I really enjoyed the tracks on there but if MKDS is all he knows, he may be disappointed with the frame-rate of MKSS. If he's cool with the SNES version, he'll definitely like MKSS.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I played Mario Kart Advance for a long time before getting Mario Kart DS. Personally I wouldn't care to go back, as it's almost psychologically impossible for me to enjoy the older one now. For me the DS version makes the GBA one obsolete.

My 6 year old also got this game for Christmas, and he plays it religiously. It actually has gotten to the point where I've been forced to take it away from him in order to get him to eat and clean his room and shit...bennythejet wrote:My 6 year old son has been playing the hell out of Mario Kart DS since i bought it for him for Xmas.
Imagine that: me forbidding my kid from gaming - at least until he gets his stuff done. I never thought I would be that kind of parent. God help us if he ever gets into MMO's....

Don't let him get into MMO's. Just cut him off from them entirely.
They are just too much, and it's not worth it. There are so many other games or things you could be doing with your time.

Hey, why not buy Diddy Kong Racing DS? It's enough like Mario Kart to not seem daunting but it has enough differences to keep him interested. At least I used to love playing that game on the N64 when I was about his age. Actually, I just went back to it a few weeks ago and I still had plenty of fun with it.

MKDS is superior, but I'm not a huge fan of the series, so I may not know of the intricacies.
