What are you playing?

I've played through the entirety of the King's Quest series and I say 3 is the best IMO. 6 is very good and probably second on my list. So since no one asked: 3, 6, 5, 4, 7, 2, 1, MoE.

And of those, 1 is the only King's Quest I've ever actually beaten...

I think chronologically is the best bet here. You get to see the series evolve (and in some cases devolve) over time.

I wanted to try some Sierra adventure games and I was told King's Quest VI: Gone Today, Heir Tomorrow is the best entry of its series so I decided to check it out.

It becomes clear from the start that it follows a very different philosophy compared to Lucasarts games and I was surprised by the game not having any dialogue options at all! Rather the game seems to be based on riddles, tricks and a healthy dose of paranoia, which fits the fairytale setting very well. It's also a fun game to listen to, the deadpan narrator and Alexander's naiveté pair very well with the sense of danger.

I'm very scared of getting stuck or missing an item, though, and the way I've found a couple objects makes me wary. But I'm told the game is much fairer than previous games in the series and actually has multiple paths and multiple endings so it's harder to get stuck. Still, I'm saving fairly often.

KQVI is a great game, but it is much, much harder than any of the LucasArts adventure games. You can get stuck; so, be sure that you have several "recovery point" saves so that you never have to backtrack too far.

Man...memories. King's Quest V was one of my very first computer games. In fact, probably the first. I think I was 12 or 13 at the time and it was HARD. So hard in fact, that I had to call that Sierra hotline for hints to even make it through the game. My parents were pretty upset with that one.

Loom was another good one from that time I remember. And of course, Monkey Island.

King's Quest V was one of the first DOS games I really played (we had an Apple II before that). It was also my introduction to the adventure genre. More interestingly though, my mom got into it, and subsequently other adventure games. At least for a time. We played V and VI, but she played VII on her own, and a few others.

After beating and 100% completing both Armored Core and Armored Core: Project Phantasma, I am now playing through Armored Core: Master Of Arena. I plan to 100% it as well, and thusly I'll have the entire PS1 AC trilogy completed. Super fun stuff if you're an OCD mech customization dork who loves contrasting pages of numerical stats late into the night.

On King's Quest...

I beat KQ1 & KQ2 on a 286 circa 1991.
I had KQ3 too but the discs were sector corrupted, so couldn't play it.
I beat KQ4 & KQ5 on a 386 circa 1992.
I beat KQ6 on a 486 IBM circa 1994.
Never played KQ7... didn't dig the aesthetics.
Played a bit of King's Quest: Mask of Eternity but it kind of sucked.

Of all those, I'd say KQ4, KQ5, and KQ6 are the best. KQ4 probably had the best story and atmosphere, KQ6 had the best puzzles, but KQ5 had the most charm and is my favorite KQ overall.

I have gone on to acquire all the PS2 entries (7 games released in the USA!), but I do not plan to play them immediately after I finish the PS1 trilogy. I don't want to get burnt out on this series, and that could happen if I keep going at this pace. The next time I get the mech itch I'll either play Ring Of Red or Front Mission 5: Scars Of The War.

Just of the -Warrior type. Let me make bad decisions in a big machine and end up killing off my teammates, or ack. Many a night was spent playing MW2 and MW4 in college. One of my favorite builds was a Novacat outfitted for speed and armor with a Long Tom. Hide and turn off until you see someone go buy, then power up and run at them. Its hard to miss with artillery when you are feet away, and it scares the hell out of those Mad Cats

If you'll recall, I demanded you guys add in mods so I could play infantry whenever we did that, and we uninstalled it the instant I took down a mech with only a light machine gun.

Started my third Mass Effect playthrough. Gone as an engineer this time and a dude. Planning on being a paragon but also whoring my way through the Normandy crew. Double nice.

Got as far as rescuing Liara before shutting it off. The controls are a bit janky compared to the later games and there is a egregious amount of texture pop-in but it's still Mass Effect. For me it's like having a Star Trek/Wars binge: a nice comfy sci-fi blanket to wrap yourself in and just lap up the special effects, the characters and that sublime soundtrack.
