Best madden and nhl on genesis?

Post by ketchupgun »

Hey, new to the forum but not to the scene (insert brag: check out the credits on the Picodrive emulator, I designed the skin ;). Very proud of that)

Anyways, couldn't find this, though it seemed like its been answers before

What's the best Madden year for genesis

And what's he best NHL year for genesis (everyone says 94....I've been enjoying 96
For some reason)

And I mean in terms of fun and gameplay, not sports simulation and accuracy ifnoLuers and stuff like that...I don't follow sports.

Thx everyone!

People are usually most nostalgic for NHL 94. It's a safe bet at any rate, though to be honest I haven't tried the ones released towards the end of the console's lifespan.

After you get to the '96 games (made in 1995) the best programmers, if they're weren't already, were working on next gen stuff.

Madden '96 was pretty robust, building off '95, which was the first year without passing windows and the NFLPA names. They put in a create a player mode too where you trained and stuff for the first time.

With NHL, '94,'95 and '96 are really different games. I haven't played a lot of '96 though.

IIRC there isn't much different with the '97 and '98 entries outside of roster updates and an overall aesthetic swap.

Most Saturn sports games are a bit too ambitious. They don't deliver a quality product.

NHL 94 destroys all others.

Best sports games on Saturn are the golf games.

In addition to the golf games, he should also look into Decathlete, Winter Heat, and the Worldwide Soccer series. They are solid. The rest are just dated.

NHL 98 has the two-line pass rule which is pretty annoying until you get used to it.

Wait. The NHL adopted the cherry picking rule in 2005, right? I know for sure you codn't deliver a two liner without being called for offsides in 2002.

They should bring back the two line rule. Much better defensive games with it intact. No real point of having a neutral zone if it isn't used as such.
