Whatever I get for that range will be far more powerful than my Sony Vaio laptop which is 5 years old and still packs a wallup for what I do today, but it's out of date and there's a short that makes it unplayable for video games so it's only for the office.
I'll probably get this tower to start off with, some memory to have a good enough selection of games. The rest I'll see what I can work with. I want that awesome custom cooling though, lol >.< unless that degrades too quickly.
First of all you should know everything breaks down with time, and price might actually not have anything to do with it.
Second of all with more expensive hardware you are getting a lot of diminishing returns. Simply put a 400$ graphics card isn't going to be able to play new games for twice as long as a 200$ card.
So while 2000$ might get you a PC that can play all games for 5 years, 1000$ can get you a PC that plays all games for 4 years, though you might have to take down the quality of shadows and stuff (and really, who even pays attention to the shadows?).
So it's better to spend an average/good amount every 4-5 years to constantly have a good (but not amazing) PC, than spending all your money on one amazing PC.
Besides if you buy a super expensive graphics card it will be "harder" to replace if it busts up.
