WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I think it will happen, the system has no security to it, but the stuff they released was all the emulation packages and the other little GPL bits, not the actual menu and other junk they created on their own. Given people can do the annoyingly clunky SD load faking IPS patches it's just a matter of time.

Ho...ly...BALLS!
This thing only needs to be able to run PSX and FBA emulators and it will basically play any game I would be interested in.

It does, just not sure how. I saw some page with various videos and it had FF7 running, title, intro fmv with aeris, and then into the 3D opening and first fights off the train.
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Yeah it has. I'm just glad the trolls aren't ruining this thread like the one over at digital press. Instead of discussing personal experiences, technical bugs/issues, helping out, showing updates and so on, it's all about bitching about GPL and attacking hyperkin and legit issues being drowned out by complaining. And of course if you disagree, you're the thought police for wanting to stay on the intended topic which is what satoshi over there is being accused of. He usually does try and bully topics he likes but in that case is right.

So if I am reading this right, it plays PSX games now?
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
Somehow, yes. I saw a video, and I can't remember even what site I saw it at. It was in a list of a few vertically displayed and it had FF7 up and running and smoothly too.

If you could go through your history and find it, I would be interested in seeing it. I mean it is not a draw for me to buy the device, I am just curious. Playing PSX games without sticks is painful and adapters, like the tototek one, just map the left stick to the dpad.

A good point, many of the PS1 games need the right stick for camera view. Older PS1 games should work fine Dpad wise.fastbilly1 wrote:If you could go through your history and find it, I would be interested in seeing it. Nice console, the SD game rom hack if it happens will definitely win me over. Just having all the different original cart options alone and any retro gamepad Nintendo/Sega brand on any game intrigues me.
HDMI only output kills using this on my HDCRT which takes a DVI connection adapted with a HDMI to DVI cable and separate analog audio RCA cables. However, an adapter can easily be added, I noticed Nyco has a compact version for the Xbox One that might just work.
Did the Nyco Xbox One Headset adapter ever get released?

Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
I've seen a LOT of videos of the Retron and done some vigorous googling, but haven't seen anything showing the Retron running any software other than what it shipped with. I have seen some documentation on a root exploit but as far as I can tell no one has yet used that to run anything on the Retron. I expect it will happen eventually but I am not holding my breath.
If you want a device to run PSX games, or run roms from an SD card, you'd probably be better off picking up a used Ouya for $50. I hear they're very easy to install emulators on, and you can use an Xbox 360 controller or most USB game pads (which I think should include SNES or other real game pads with an adapter.) The Retron is unlikely to measure up to a truly open android device in terms of ease of use for anything other than its intended purpose. Not that I wouldn't be glad to see some experimentation with its software, I just wouldn't buy it for that purpose when other options will be easier and cheaper.
