360 ToV is English. PS3 ToV was never localized.

But asking between them is like asking "do I want a sandwich or do I want to go play basketball?"

I'm losing interest in the Tales series I think. There's just too many of them and they're so damn long - it's a complete oversaturation. I'll probably check out any installments released on Vita, 3DS, or Wii U (it could happen!) but five Tales games could be released on the PS4 and/or Xbone and it still wouldn't make me want to buy either console.

I find this a little funny coming from the guy who has beaten just about every version of Ys I-Ys IV there is.

That said, in general I find it difficult getting motivated for any "modern" JRPG series, be it Tales, Wild Arms, Final Fantasy, or any other. I was interested in Breath of Fire 6 but was immediately turned away by Capcom's format for it. I've been happy to experience a return to the genre on older consoles though, so I suppose it doesn't matter. There are still plenty of SNES RPGs to interest me, even if I don't delve into the NTSC-J SFC side of things.

Sure if the Tales games only took 3-8 hours to beat a piece, he might feel differently.

I remember reading some reviews when the first Tales of Xillia came out, and a common thread among them was the positive point that the game "only" took about 40 hours to complete, versus the 60 or more of other games in the series.

A couple of those reviews also complained that 40 hours still felt too long, so...

Comments like that give the impression that Tales may be a bit bloated. Just a skosh.

Ok, but is ToV worth playing if you do feel like a sandwich? I was thinking of grabbing both, and I don't mind long games, but outside of the Grandia series I haven't really been doing much with jrpg stuff in recent years either.

ToV is a really solid RPG. In terms of mechanics it hews pretty close to Symphonia, so the combat system will feel very familiar. The story is fairly standard, though there's some moral ambiguity that adds an angle you don't often see in JRPGs. And it does have a world map, which is such a rare commodity these days.

Cool, sounds like it is worth $5. I'll just grab them both. Thanks.

Ys games are short.

But yeah, I find most console JRPGs these days to be entirely too bloated and long. I stick mostly to handhelds for the newer stuff. I did love Eternal Sonata though.

Also, is ToV in English?
Everyone knows what I am going to vote for this. I feel the same way about Tales as Bone feels about Ys. :P

Also, yes, ToV is in English, both voiced and in text, but only the Xbox 360 version. The expanded PS3 version never made it out of Japan, something I'm still bitter about. *pouts* :?
