"Hunt" (hack of Duck Hunt): http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1827/

"Shoot UFO" (another Duck Hunt hack): http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1828/

Another: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1830/

Actually, there's a bunch of interesting newly added hacks to RHDN, so just check the list on the homepage: http://www.romhacking.net/

I'm disappointed, this hack has multiple problems on real hardware. It locks up easily. That's a shame because it looks like a really good hack. I might play it on an emulator, better than nothing I guess.

One thing I noticed that had me cracking up... You know in Mario games when you're on an incline and press down to sit and slide? When you do that in this hack, Toad's face changes. It's pretty funny, and what a nice touch!

This isn't a hack, but I don't think we have a dedicated homebrew thread, so....

Classic Kong for the SNES, a homebrew game. Looks great, but I haven't tried it out yet.

I was looking at the different Castlevania II hacks out there. With romhacking they download as .ips files. Making them .nes didn't seem to work in any emulator. What's the gimmick on converting these for emulation?

heh dude the ips file is the patch, you need to apply the ips file to the proper nes rom using a file like lunar ips http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/

very easy to do you just choose the ips file and then it prompts you to choose what nes file to apply it too, then boom its done and the nes file is now patched.

Also you sure the Castlevania 2 hacks are not already in the romset I gave you?

when thing to note is once you patch the nes rom it doesn't change the name of the rom, so you have to do it manually.

What do you guys think of Metroid, Super Metroid, and Zelda LTTP rom hacks thesedays?

I've never been a big fan of Super Metroid hacks because they're always trying to be 10x harder and abuse walljumping. And the LTTP hacks have just never really pulled me in, even the nicer ones I tried... they just still felt kind of amateurish. I wonder if there's more polished ones out there by this point. I did see there was a Super Metroid Zero/Remake hack haha, wonder if it's good.

Played a lot of cool Metroid hacks way back in the day though when rom hacking was new. Good times with that and the editor.

Some emulators will allow you to "soft" patch a ROM. That is, you have the .ips patch in the same folder as the ROM, then you can run the ROM with the patch applied, but the ROM isn't actually altered.

That's just being lazy tho. It's far less confusing to just have hard patched ROMs. Yes, be sure to rename it. And also, be sure to COPY the ROM and duplicate it first before patching so you can keep the original intact.

Want to play God of War on the NES?

http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2150/

The above link is for God of War II. Looks like a hack of the original Castlevania. I haven't bothered to look up the first game, but this one looks like it could be fun.
