The federal government only comes in on things that a state couldn't do alone, such as war and foreign policy and such. If the UK was a confederacy, for an example, Scotlands taxes wouldn't go outside the area- it would be Scottish money for Scottish people, and all there laws are their own. They wouldn't pay for wellfare in England, could have laws conflicting with those in Wales, and it wouldn't matter. Essentially, its like a bunch of small countries, who are considered one for dealing with other countries.
So basically "my money for me". Yeah that's very looked down upon in Europe. I don't see the Scottish referendum being like that, I never saw any comments of "hate" towards England. It was more against the government, and that I can understand because they don't like how a London centered, save the financial industry and nothing more, government works.

On the other hand when you hear arguments like "I don't want my money to go to other parts of the country" you sound like a spoiled asshole who doesn't understand the meaning of solidarity. Imagine New York having to bail itself out from 11/9.

Now if you don't like how the money is spent, I can respect that, but not when you only care about yourself.

It's not the media's function to calm tensions or reassure the public. They can only report what is going on and from every source I could find what happened was a fairly trivial confrontation started by some drunken skinheads. Certainly not the deaths and firebombings or even anything approach a "riot" you initially said it was.

It's amusing how much you lambaste the British media for supposedly distorting the truth when the majority of your posts are laden with hyperbole and hearsay.

Well Ack the hostages are free, but I (as well as the reporter) don't think this will change anything about Turkey. Deep down inside their sultan is an islamist.

Isn't it just a handful of drunks causing a ruckus?

Your own pictures show the police are clearly in control and maintaining a cordon. One horse on its hind legs does not a riot make. Having experienced the very real riots we had in 2011 when there was next to zero police presence and mobs kicking in storefronts and burning cars, yes I'd say this was pretty trivial.

It looks more like the run up to a Rangers/Celtic European match to be honest. You almost seem to want things to spill out of control sometimes.

I always expected more of you than to just be surprised about this. I'm twitting this. #mrpopodoesnotcare

Anyway... Let this man go into detail about how the media shafted the people of Scotland. Link.
I'm not going to disagree that the entire no vote was based on fear (fear of the unknown, fear of the currency, fear of jobs), but really...each side had the right to use any means necessary, except lies, to make its case.

I understand why you are frustrated, but you shouldn't get angry at sloap. Most people see the result and say "ok you voted, can we stop talking about this now".

Mind you if the Torries don't keep their word about the devolution or power, or them and the ukip take you out of the EU, I'm pretty sure you will get another referendum in the next 5 years and actually win it that time.

But don't waste your energy trying to come up with reasons for the defeat, because the real reason was "this is what people prefer".

FFS the Germans voted Hitler in, and the Russians vote for Putin, because people want stability. It was an achievement that the Yes vote got so high to begin with.
