What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I recently watched the animated film, The Thief and the Cobbler, as well as another animated film, The Thief and the Cobbler.

I know you are thinking, "But Bogus, those are the same film!"

INCORRECT my fine retro-game friends. The Thief and the Cobbler was a an animation film that was worked on by Richard Williams, one of the men responsible for great films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The film was in production for 28 years and features some of the most mind boggling animation. The film was drawn at 24 frames per second in comparison to the standard of 12 frames per second.

What I first watched was called the Recobbled cut, taking the original workprint of the film that had been circulating during the original production, which had complete voice work done and a score, but lacked some fully animated scenes. The footage is cleaned up, restored and what missing footage is replaced with storyboard stills.

The second film, was what was released in theaters and is a disgusting abomination. After the film could not meet deadlines and was grossly overbudget, Williams lost control of it and the new owners gutted the film entirely, replacing it with a changed storyline, voice actors for characters who were mute and added out of place song and dance numbers. The editing is atrocious to make it more marketable and what you have is a nonsensical piece of mush. Not only that, but they took the 24 frames per second animation and changed them to 12, making everything look god-awful in comparison.

I strongly suggest people watch the recobbled cut. My link is to the youtube playlist that has the full film. I downloaded it and watched it on my TV and it is truly a sight to behold in terms of animation style and technique. You seriously will never see anything like this.

Harry Potter 2: Snake Rattle and Roll. Every time I rewatch a Harry Potter film I just notice more and more how J.K Rowling didn't really think her world through and made shit up as she went along. Otherwise it's a fun kids film.

By the way Luke, if you're still looking for movie recommendations, I suggest Dead and Breakfast for a fun horror movie.

It's called Dead Alive, but only in America. Outside of the States (it's a New Zealand film, directed by a younger Peter Jackson), it's known as Braindead. It was changed to avoid confusion with an American horror film named Brain Dead.

Dead Alive's basically Peter Jackson doing a pseudo-remake of Evil Dead 2, but with more gore and sillier shit.

Also, the R-Rated American cut is shorter (at 85 minutes), so try to seek out a UK or Australian copy, which is 104 minutes long, though the Unrated American cut, while only 97 minutes long, is Jackson's preferred cut.

You know what I meant when I called Dead Alive a pseudo-remake of Evil Dead 2.

Just like La Casa 3-5 were pseudo-sequels to Evil Dead 1 and 2, or how Zombi 2-5 were pseudo-sequels to Dawn of the Dead.
