Just saw a commercial for Tusk.

Directed by Kevin Smith, based on one his podcasts. About a dude turning another dude into a walrus. I'm not sure if this is the best thing ever, or... well something thats supposed to be funny but ends up too screwed up.

I saw TUSK around a year ago when it was running the festival circuit. It's very underwhelming. Super surprised it's getting a national release.

I wasn't aware it had already ran circuits and such, I hadn't looked into much.

Man forgot i had this one....definitely a great watch(can't compare it to Aristocats like some of you...both are great movies ). Definitely won't see disney make anything like this again. I mean the new stuff is the same stuff minus everything fun and interesting(like cigs and a dog adjusting her "furr boobies" ). I wish they'd release mega collection of the 90's disney movies though...that would be freaking awesome

The local drive-in is having "retro weekends" recently, and they're on a roll. Last week, I watched both "Back to the Future" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" for the first time. I was lukewarm on "Close Encounters", but B2TF was amazing.

Yeah, it was supposed to be Smith's rebound from RED STATE, but received a resounding "no thank you". Mild spoilers below:

I'm not sure to say if this film is KS heavy or KS light. I say that because all his usual stamps are there: lots of dialogue and rhetoric, grasps at trying to understand the present pop culture, super cameos, poop humor and silly puns, foreseeable and unforeseeable twists. But this time the rhetoric goes on and on and on, the pop culture seems dated and useless, the cameos are astounding but thrown away, the puns are terrible (The lead is named Wallace, ya know like "Wallace and Walrus sound alike", if that gives you any hint), and the twists are only there for shock value.

Kevin Smith has done a lot for some of my friends, so I try not to say anything negative about him. So I'll say that he was a genius when he didn't have money. No doubt that he's capable of making a great movie, but TUSK is a far cry from a great movie.

I realize that how he handled Red State caused a big debacle, and I really wish it had been titled differently, but Tusk seemed more like a bizarre novelty idea moreso than one used to produce a full-length film.

I actually don't see how it couldn't be considered a horror film, at least in part. From what I know of it, isn't it supposed to be a hybrid of Human Centipede and Misery with a walrus obsession thrown in? Sure, it may mostly meander and completely miss the point...but then, even Manos: Hands of Fate is considered a horror film.
