Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Dang it, I think I've officially wiped the gamestops near me of psp games that are decent when I last went a few weeks ago I found a few but not many(I hate buying disc only games but I'm half tempted to do so now even if they're under the gamestop generic case
...)

Yes, this practice just makes me upset. It's one thing to take in DS/3DS games that don't have cases but to destroy the ones that do...mas wrote:Went to GameStop yesterday during lunch. Employee had a bunch of D's games and 3ds games traded in. I asked what they do with the cases and he replied he throws them out. I said to myself why would they do that they could sell more ds games if they kept the cases. I ask if I can have them and he said he can get fired for doing that wtf!!!
They are also hurting the second-hand market for people that actually like complete games because they are destroying good inventory. As a result, there are less complete copies in circulation which will command even higher prices than normal.
*sigh*

Dumpster dive! Just don't get caught, or you will get the cops called on you.

If your chummy with the gamestop worker. Buy something and ask if you can have the boxes. Or at least a few of them.
I've done this a couple of times. I buy something and I ask if they have any spare cases. They usually give me a generic one, but if they got in some trades; they've given me a few of the empty cases.
Last year, while I was looking in the store, A guy came in with a bunch of DS/PSP cases. I guess his son traded them in a few days ago. He brought the rest of the empty cases in to the store.
The worker was going to throw them away. Obviously he wasn't going to tell the guy that. The guy left the store, and I had about $25 in used games I was going to buy. I asked the worker "what are you going to do with those?" He said they were going in the trash. He already had them set aside next to the bin in the store.
I asked him since I was already buying product from him, if I could have the cases. He shrugged and said okay. Like I said, I was cool with the guy and he knows I like stuff like this. So I took my games home and the empty cases.
Which had lots of Club nintendo points!
So I guess, it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe you can still get a few cases. Or just wait till they get thrown out into the dumpster.
NO shame in diving. You're doing alternative recycling

This is great advice! I literally have hundreds of spare case because of them tossing them. I also have two platinum Nintendo accounts, all kinds of free DLC from inserts in PS3 games. Yes, they toss leaflets with codes from time to time. When they closed out PS2 I got a shit load of cases, many with liners and manuals. Bless you Gamestop for being wasteful!TSTR wrote:Dumpster dive! Just don't get caught, or you will get the cops called on you.
Another nice side effect is the free posters and all such advertising. My Last of Us store display is awesome!
As said, be friends with these people, talk to them not down to them. The store I go to sometimes inhibit my shopping LOL. It is like a small event when I go in, we bullshit about games and all kinds of things. Gamestop corporate are the ones who make most of the horrible decisions. The employees are cool for the most part and will take care of you when you are cool to them!
No, I have never worked for or endorse Gamestop!

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Thinking of Gamestop, what are other good options for selling games? I'm about to have some to sell, and I want to get the most bang for my buck, but I'd rather not post them online and have to wait for them to sell, or deal with shipping. Am I just SOL?
My most recent Gamestop experience was perfect though, the guy at the cash register didn't bug me about preorders because he knew I don't preorder, and went and dug out a box for the game for me, which was lovely. We also talked about Lollipop Chainsaw, so the guy was luckily at least somewhat familiar with off the radar games.

Other then Gamestop there are pawns but they are just as bad price wise
. Talking $0.50-$1 for PS2/Xbox/GC games and maybe $2-$3 for 360/Wii/PS3.
To get the most cash out of them the best bet would be to sell them individually online but if you want to save time you could always make some Priority mail box lot auctions on eBay to sell them faster.

Sadly you will not get shit at Gamestop for most games. Make a big mystery box and sell it in the forum.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Thinking of Gamestop, what are other good options for selling games? You could try eStarland.

The eStarland prices don't seem too bad. A couple of games only got me about 2 bucks or so on there, but they were really common, so I guess that makes sense. (RDR and Gears 2) They pay pretty good on special editions/compilation games and everything.
