Suddenly wanting to win a mini-game must have made them feel amazingly stupid

I held a Dreamcast controller once in my hands. I was expecting to be revolted by it, instead I was strangely....satisfied by the feel of it. Other than the cord being on the bottom of the controller (who does THAT?) and the analog stick being more convex than most analog sticks I've tried, it felt nice in my hands. Then again, I held one of those Duke Xbox controllers in my hands and my only gripe with it was that it was heavier than most controllers.

In contrast, after using the Gamecube controllers.....not sure if I like them as much as everybody else does anymore. I never cared for the shoulder buttons that are spring-triggered; the Z-button, which was genius on the N64 controller, is a complete joke; the d-pad.....the less said about it, the better. The face buttons I'm ok with (I prefer the face buttons on the n64 more though), and both sticks are great.

The one time I held a Dreamcast controller, I found the d-pad to be....not that awful. However I've never played a Dreamcast game with it, so I can't vouch for the actual performance. I will say that it doesn't feel nearly as awkward as the Gamecube d-pad. That shit is horrendous.

When I played Viewtiful Joe a while ago with the Gamecube controller.....holy hell did that do a number on my hands. Playing a 2-D game with a Gamecube controller is not recommended under ANY circumstances. At least the N64 controller gave you a nice d-pad and better shoulder buttons to use if you needed to do any 2-D gaming on that thing. The Gamecube controller doesn't give you shit other than an oversized A button. "Here's a d-pad smaller than your thumb and spring loaded triggers to make you work extra hard for that block, have fun!"

That was the moment I realized the Gamecube controller wasn't nearly as awesome for my hands.

I might have to come back to this and do a Unpopular Gaming Opinions - Controller Edition.

I personally don't mind the DC controller. Analog stick is nice, buttons are well designed and you gotta dig those analog triggers for racing games. For fighting, not so much.

GC controller is great for FPS. The triggers on that feel a bit funny, and the oddly shaped buttons I can't wrap my head around, but it's fully functional and comfortable, and it's great for GBA games too.

I'm gonna forget you said that about FPS, Exed.

Anyway, I also never cared for the Gamecube controller. The button placement bothers me, the Z-button feels off, and the D-pad/C-stick combo just never made much sense. But I gotta say, having those L and R buttons shaped for my fingers was actually pretty nice. I can't fault it there.

The N64 controller is really good for FPS's. After playing so much Goldeneye and Perfect Dark I can't go back to other console FPS's like Timesplitters.

If you're gonna console FPS, two sticks are mandatory. Made it work back in the day w/ Goldeneye, but after that--no way.

I tried to like the DC controller. Really, I did. But it is ergonomically challenged, the analog stick feels uncomfortable and inaccurate, the D-pad sits way too high and is too hard, and the goddamn cord comes out of the bottom. Triggers are nice, though.

Two sticks annoy me. The thing that I can't stand is that when you play an FPS, you make constant tiny movements to straighten your path. When using a two stick method, this translates to constantly flicking the right stick. In my opinion, it gets annoying quickly.
I will admit though, it doesn't work without an auto-aiming system like Goldeneye.

I agree on the Dreamcast though. Great system, terrible controller.

I think console FPS's control OK on N64, but thats because I use the c buttons to move and strafe and the stick to aim.

I figure analogue aiming is more important than analogue movement. It takes a second to get used to them being the 'wrong' way round, but otherwise it feels pretty good.

I don't think Doom is too uncomfortable with a controller given dedicated buttons to strafe and turn around (Like in the GBA port). It's strictly worse than a mouse or any other similar device but I can tolerate it.

I must have been doing something completely different than most people on here when playing on the n64 it seems. I never hurt my thumbs or anything using it's controller(it was actually quite comfortable). When I was younger I used to play that thing for hours on end trying to beat mario, zelda, and donkey kong. Of course I only beat zelda(using a walkthrough of course because I kept getting stuck on that dang water temple and I think the fire one as well)
