Yeah it's definitely a great system, just wish I had more games for it growing upalienjesus wrote:Also, I adore the N64. Any of you who don't like it are crazy crazy fools. One of my favourites systems ever, and easily my favourite of that generation (which I think is one of the most interesting and fun eras of gaming personally)

I can't picture "hating" a certain system as a whole. I have no interesting the N64 because I didn't own one and the graphics don't do anything for me at this point, but if I could play nothing else but the N64 for a year it's not like I would mind. There are a lot of good games for it.
Maybe if you absolutely couldn't stand the Wii's control set up you could hate an entire console, but that's about the only situation I can think of.

Not even sure I agree with this. Plenty of games you could play using the classic or Gamecube controllers instead.

Or pro controller(though the motion controls are nice in my opinion on some games especially skyward sword and the like where it really matters what you do with the remote)alienjesus wrote:Snatch1414 wrote:I can't picture "hating" a certain system as a whole. Re: Console w Biggest Love It or Hate It Factor?
Adding a few more votes for the obvious ones (N64, Wii, oXBox), but I would like to add the Mega Drive and Atari 2600/Colecovision ect.
Sounds crazy right? Allow me to elaborate.
While the Mega Drive was a big success and I adore it, it's impossible not to notice when you own both the SNES and Mega Drive that the Mega Drive has a much more "focused" feeling behind all of its games. And that's "Arcade". Either it's a shooter, a platformer or a puzzle game, most of the Mega Drive's well known games feel arcade in nature (even Sonic). On the other hand the SNES not only had a larger variety of genres, it also had a wider variety inside the genres themselves (case in point Super Mario World is a more classic arcade platformer, but Yoshi's Island implements puzzle platformer elements.
And the Atari 2600/Colecovision ect....well.....I know it sucks for a retro gamer to say it, but I really believe you must be able to tolerate the primitive game play of these consoles to enjoy them. Even the NES imo is barely strong enough to support games that can be universtialy enjoyed to this day.

Well for me the nes is just a big starter console in terms of games. I mean the biggest boost in certain genres came from it, especially rpgs. I mean it seems weird to say it but final fantasy, and dragon warrior/quest sure influenced a lot of the games I play now in terms of gameplay and such

I also have a strong love the N64, which surprises me in a way, because as a kid I only ever owned two games for it (the rest I borrowed from friends, played at their houses, or rented). I think the good times I had with it were just that concentrated in quality.
I also have to say -- just to prove this thread's point -- that I think the N64 and GameCube controllers are some of the comfiest controllers ever made. It never ceases to amaze me how much mileage varies on that.
And how about the Sega Nomad? Because I love that thing. And may be the only person to ever. (Okay, not true... I'm relatively confident there must be at least ten of us.)

dasparx at first I also wanted to include the NES in that list, but then I remembered the around 10-20 games it has that do stand the test of time, and removed it.darsparx wrote:Well for me the nes is just a big starter console in terms of games. Anyway my opinion is, that if we are talking about a love it or hate it situation, 8-bit consoles belong there since for many people those games are too primitive. I could never play with an Atari 2600. But I understand others on this board do and I respect their taste

The general consensus is that it's pretty pointless, is it not? I have the impression that it's considered a bad joke. Mostly in good-humor, but still.Jmustang1968 wrote:Whats not to like about the nomad?
Although I guess that would mean it's less a "love/hate" situation and more of a "love/meh." Perhaps passions don't run high enough for this one to be technically on-topic. Nevermind.
