So is the new 3DS going to be far and away better than the old one for playing Smash Bros? I was just watching a video (Boogie2988) and he made a quick comment to the effect of "obviously if you're playing Smash Bros. and you don't have a C stick you're going to be at a disadvantage".

I think I can sum up the scenarios thus far for what the launch of the New 3DS will be (using the XL as an example here)

Best case scenario:

The Ultra 3DS XL!!! Out on January 30th, 2015, at $199.99

Yes, sign me up for one ASAP.

Worst case scenario:

The New 3DS XL!!! Out on June 30th, 2015, at $249.99

No thanks.

The best thing about playing Smash Bros on the new model will be the ability to exit to Miiverse or browser while the game is running. I suspect the console also won't need to do the mini-reboot when exiting the game.

I fail to see how lifting my thumb from the buttons to press the C stick simply to be able to punch left while floating right is a disadvantage of any significance.

So an article on IGN stated that the "New" 3DS models have sold quite a bit, over 230,000 units in 2 days.

It also said some disheartening information though (for us Yanks). Apparently, Australia and New Zealand get the "New" 3DS next month, while we in America (as well as Europe) are given a vague "2015" release. That's right. No date or time frame other than 2015. Well, that's great. And.....it looks like they might stick with that horrid "New" 3DS name also.

Isn't that swell...

Do I care enough to have an Aussie friend buy me one or not, that is the question...

Did they start that nonsense on handhelds? I know I never had any problems with my DS (or for that matters, damn near anything with a cartridge), but I haven't bought new handheld hardware in years and years now...

Well on the one hand, that's a shame. On the other hand, I'm not that broken up over it. I never really jump on new hardware, at this point I've learned to wait an iteration or two for better features/more stability. Sad but true as the systems become more and more computerized.

Just gives me more time to save my money :D

Can't remember if I posted about it or not, but I've got a pre-order in for that Persona Q 3DSXL. So geeked.
