Yeah, maybe if you just got into horror films.noiseredux wrote:Scream is a fucking 5/5 classic. There is no fault I can find with this film. I love every moment of it, as I did upon first view. It is intelligent, visceral, funny, and well... perfect.

The Lawnmower Man
Wait, what did I just watch? That was a comedy, right? Because there's no way I could take that seriously if it was trying to be legitimately frightening. Not because it's dated (which it totally is), not because the actors ham it up more than a Christmas dinner (which they totally do), and not even because it looks absolutely ridiculous, even outside of the CG segments (which it totally does), but because it is just a ludicrous and baffling concept for a story. What writer in the right mind would come up with a horror story so silly? ...Wait a minute... *looks up original writer* Oh... that explains so much.

Yep. And I love the movie because it's so ridiculous, plus Jeff Fahey going full retard and full megalomaniac genius in one film.noiseredux wrote:except that the film has literally nothing to do with the story that King wrote...lisalover1 wrote:The Lawnmower Man

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Horror movie season is off to a great start!
Last night, my wife and I watched:

You're Next (2011). It was a delightful, John Carpenter-inspired, action/horror movie that played out like a slasher film version of an Agatha Christie murder mystery. The movie was well-acted, well-scripted, delightfully scary, and punctuated with genuinely funny moments of dark humor. In retrospect, the plot is ridiculous, and the "reveals" will be obvious to anyone who has seen either a slasher film or a murder mystery. (As implied by its title, the real fun in You're Next is not guessing the identity of the killers, but rather guessing the identity of their next victim.) These flaws are only evident in retrospect, however, since the film is entirely too much fun for them to be evident while you are watching it. In short, I really, really enjoyed You're Next, and I will probably have a hard time finding a horror film that I enjoy as much during my October horror movie marathon.
EDIT: Also, this movie is available for streaming on Netflix; so, if you have that service, you can watch it instantly!
