An article on the subject I mostly agree with.

Basically I agree that the economic crisis probably spurred all these independence movements.
On one hand I think it's very selfish to not show solidarity to your less rich compatriots. On the other hand, if your politicians are Fucking the entire country, it makes sense that some people are going to think that it makes a difference if those politicians have the same nationality as you or not.
Anyway, mainstream politicians need to compromise and wait for the crisis to pass.
I'm not sure if the British government is the worst of its kind or not though

On the very least, it would increase unrest in Catalonia and the Basque County, splitting Spain in three if not more.
You know, that's one of those things that are often said but you can't answer because you don't know where the complaint comes from. It's like the EU being burocratic, everyone says it is, but nobody knows why that is the caseAck wrote:Isn't Germany the real dominant player in EU politics these days anyway? That is usually how it seems to the US.
The thing is that the European goverment is not simply a meeting of European leaders, but its own chosen body with its own politicians. So Germany matters in so far it's the biggest country of the EU with 80 million people and has a powerful economy that has handled the economic crisis fairly well but I don't think they really control the EU as much as it's thought.

I don't understand the point of Belgium splitting up. The very definition of Belgium is "what if France and the Netherlands had a child together".General_Norris wrote: Actually Flandes (not Flanders) has an incredibly strong nationalistic movement that got very strong on the last elections and they are indeed mad enough to think they are better off alone. Belgium may very well split in two if someone else does it first.

Exactly. It's rude, dirty, stinks of cheese, and spends way too much money on drugs. And then there's the Netherlands side of Belgium. Why would anybody want to stay with that?ZeroAX wrote:I don't understand the point of Belgium splitting up. The human toll of human trafficking is staggering indeed. This ongoing tragedy won't cease until stability and economic growth come to the affected areas.
