But seriously, I'm enjoying the game quite a bit. If it wasn't for all the hype, the fact it was in development for so long, cost so much to make and was made by Bungie, then I don' think the criticism would be quite so harsh.
I think if it wasn't for the hype and the fact that it was made by Bungie people would be a lot more receptive to the idea that it's a game with a lot of aspirations that doesn't quite deliver and is repetitive as hell. I mean, the hype train and Bungie is the only reason it sold a completely unjustified amount of copies. I find it hard to believe it would've sold like hot cakes if it was made by some random developer.
is the game any less repetive than Diablo 3? Than most FPS multiplayer? Still not sure what that complaint is about...the game is based around killing things and then killing those same things with different difficulties and weapons or classes. There's a nice variety of large worlds/maps. Or you can play about a half dozen PvP modes.

I would say D3 mixes it up a bit more. The elite enemy types with varying abilities. The boss fights also require varying strategies to defeat them. The characters play a lot differently from each other, but that may just be a product of Destiny being an FPS.
I did go through most of the Moon last night and will say it was an improvement over Earth. The sword mission was cool
Yeah, the sword mission is badass. I'm finding the game is a 'grower'.

The same kind of enemy strategies/differences exist in Destiny, too...much of that is based around how and where to move and how to work together to take them down without everyone on the fireteam dying. The bosses often move quite differently, have different kinds of attacks, are accompanied by different supporting enemies, etc.
It really does feel like D3 in FPS form in many ways, but with less (if more useful) loot and poorer class differentiation. But it is much prettier and, at many points, wonderfully tense.

Haha. I knew you'd chime in with that. I mean this is clearly the same thing because I'm a professional reviewer for a high profile games publication...oh wait.
Random off topic question then. Would I enjoy Diablo 3 if I enjoy Destiny and have never played a Diablo game before in my life (and know nothing about them)? I was considering it, when I saw D3 was released on the PS4 and got great reviews. It's a hack n' slash / RPG type game, right?

Probably, yes. I've tried many times to get into Diablo and Diablo 2, but always struggle to get more than a few hours into either. I've played the shit out of D3 and keep coming back to it, it's my fave in the genre (just ahead of the Torchlight games, which are also great) and it has continually improved over time with patches and expansions. As much as it feels at home with KB&M, I'm debating picking up a PS4 copy eventually too.

Interesting, I might pick it up then. Thanks.

I've been enjoying Destiny pretty well actually. I feel like they didn't market the game very well and people got the wrong expectations for what it was going to be. I'm having fun in both the campaign and PVP. I'd love to get more folks to play with online. I play at very random days and times (marriage, amirite? ), so here's my info if you want to add in the hopes of being on around the same time.
