Let's look at the regional changes made when certain games came over from Japan:



What are some of the more interesting or bizarre changes that you know about?

That was fun. Some changes I was unaware of in there.

I'm assuming the morphing into SMB 2 US was skipped since many people know about that already. Not that it is a good game, but Dragon Power was a Dragon Ball game in Japan. They changed it up since it was before the DB craze here. There were the butchered Mobile Light Force Games that were Gunbird and Castle of Shikigami. Doraemon: Meikyuu Daisakusen for PCE had the graphics changed and became Crater Maze for the TG16. The first Ranma 1/2 fighting game for SFami got chewed up and released at Street Combat here. Neither is good though, stick with the second, or better yet third ones if you want some SFami/SNES Ranma 1/2 fighting action. The SFami Rushing Beat games were changed up a bit and turned into Rival Turf!, Brawl Brothers, and The Peace Keepers here. Brawl Brothers turned the sewer area into a maze where the Japanese version you just fought straight through.

Also need a honorable mention for the zelda series that one goes without saying though knowing nintendo of America I mean music in fire temple(oot), the hippo, and mermaid in OoT, and various others i'd have to look up just to remember I had no clue about until a few months ago but kinda make sense knowing the company *sigh*

Also we got to see boobs and sex in our version of indigo prophesy /Fahrenheit

That ground scrolling in Phantasy Star III looks seizure-inducing.

What are some of your favorite (or least favorite) games based on movies?

Did you know that not only did War Games (that movie about Ferris Bueler's other day off) have it's own adaptation on the ColecoVision, but it also had a sequel 15 years later on the PC and PS1 that the film's director collaborated with!





My favorite game based on a movie: King Kong (PS2), an incredibly good adaptation that captures the feel of the movie. The bonus features reveal that Peter Jackson helped in it's development and he even hid a playable crazy alternate ending!

Least favorite game based on a movie: Tomorrow Never Dies (PS1), my personal favorite Bond film was turned into the worst Bond game ever.

Bonus- Favorite movie based on a game: Hitman. Sure it didn't capture a lot of what we loved in the game series and it's definitely not perfect, but I enjoyed it and feel like people were a little too harsh towards it.

I played Jurassic Park on the Genesis/Mega Drive the other week; not terrible but not brilliant either.
My favourite would have to be The Italian Job on the PSone. I'm probably looking through rose tinted glasses as I played it none-stop when I was younger, but damn that game was fun

The best movie based on a game has gotta be the first Mortal Kombat. Johnny Cage and Scorpion fighting in the catacombs while Fear Factory is blasting in the background—can't touch it.

I really enjoyed Scarface: The World Is Yours for movie-to-game things.

More games that share the same name but they were built from the ground up as different games (even though some of them share a similar play style). As always a Batman game is one of the ones featured because they always fall into this category. Check it out!
