What Flashlight do you like to use?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled the app. It says it needs access to network communications.

So yesterday I got a high powered flashlight and a lantern both from Coast.

The flashlight is the HP17TAC: 615 lumen and runs on 3 D batteries for 15 hours (no voltage regulator). $55 from Amazon.

The lantern is the EAL20: 375 lumen and runs on 4 D batteries for like 80 to 100 hours (again no voltage regulator). $34 on Amazon.

I wanted the high powered light because my cheaper, larger Maglights I shifted around the house so I wanted that light in my room. The lantern I wanted because I've read great reviews about it and if the power goes out I can just hang that sucker up and the whole room will be all lit up.

What sparked these purchases is due to continuous little reports that there is a sizable possibility of getting hit with a storm similar to Sandy in 2012. I want to make sure everything is covered. While I've taken care of other things for preparation I thought I would share the light part here.

Even as the topic creator I feel the same way.

They are saying to prepare for atleast a week without power where I am, so we have started stockpiling food, water, and powersupplies. I was going to try and a turnkey portable solar system, but I cannot find any facts on how well they run in snow (obviously it would be put out after the main snowfall).

Other than the usual lights and candles we have canned food, a gas generator, an outdoor propane range, bunch of water and non-lethal protection.

Now that last one is understandable since my area, as close as a few doors down, was hit with looters. 17 days without power equals questions days without security systems.

Fyi: charge all of your portables ahead of time. I swapped between my two GBA SPs and charged them when I was able to go to work.

Where I live, if we lose power, I am not going to work. I work 50 miles away and if we lose power it is because of ice. Normally we just play boardgames or read, but when I discovered I could get something like this:

for that price, it makes it an interesting propositioned. I plan on having a couple charged 27M batteries with a power inverter regardless. While we can live fine without power, during the winter I do not like taking chances.

I also picked up an LED bulb for my 51 Everready Art Deco Red (paid 50 cents at a garage sale for it, just had to swap out batteries). It lasts 200 hours per set of Cs - first 100 hours are at max power, then it drops to half until the last 20 or so where it drops to a quarter. This is not uncommon, but kinda disappointing.

My chief concern is pipes bursting during the winter. Warmth is easy with candles (safety first) in a central room and layers are key.
