Mother 3 goes for in the 40 to 50 range. Repros can be had for 35-40 if you buy used.

Let's put it this way, you can get Mother 3 complete from Japan for less than a cart only repro.

Are you sure about that? I didn't do a lot of extensive looking, but all complete copies on eBay were in the 75-80 range. Probably should have looked around a little more.

Gonna start saving up.

I've beaten it in the past. From what I recall it has some issues with emulators due to imperceptible input lag. Hopefully that's not too much of an issue with the R5. If it is I can just switch to GBA and force myself to read the Japanese.

Woot! My games came in and slid bahamut lagoon in, works like a charm after I applied the patch...now just to find a way to output sound from the retron and I'll be set. I just can't bring myself to fully use the thing until I do so

Just because I looked for it: mother3.fobby.net (fan translation)

I need to try these mother/earthbound games eventually and no better time now that i have a retron

fyi, from what I can tell there is no translation patch for the original Famicom Mother. That's because there was an English prototype created back in the day (now called EarthBound Zero) which is floating all around the internet as a ROM and is available as a repro cart.

However, you can patch the GBA version of Mother - it's part of the Mother 1+2 compilation, though the patch only translates Mother not Mother 2 (aka EarthBound).

As you probably know, the US release of EarthBound is very expensive. I have no idea if there is a patch that translates the Japanese Super Famicom Mother 2 to English - if there is one it may have already been posted in this thread.

Yeah I'm aware of all that. Unfortunately my slavery to domestic releases whenever possible will probably have me (re)acquiring the way too expensive US Earthbound cart at some point. Maybe Christmas.
