While the MENU on the system uses Android, the emulators themselves tap the hardware directly and android is switched off. This is why the system itself has no input/delay lag versus something like Ouya and other Android emulators because it has to deal with the lag Android forces upon it.
Neat bit of information there.

I put the new firmware on and I'm still having issues getting it to recognize Ultimate Card Games (GBA). I opened the cartridge and eraser-ed and swabbed it down again till the gold contacts cant shine anymore. That's the only game I've tried so far it won't recognize.

Yeah that's what I've been doing, it works alright, just not quite as convenient.

Additional update in that mediafire link I shared a few pages back, dude added ips patch for Tecmo Super Bowl '15, if any of ya'all are into that sort of thing like me

Here's the link to those patches again: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/b5kjab ... rgvd6f6poe

Interesting stuff Tanooki. They're supporting this thing so well right now that I have no fears about little bugs like DKC and Mario 2 getting fixed.

Figured it wouldn't be convient but handy until they add the right support. Though I do have to admit I'm going to bookmark that mediafire page...I could use the translation patches for alchahest, ff IV-VI, bahamut lagoon, and chrono trigger(coming with the games once they finally leave japan :? now I just need to find other japanese games at a decent deal without 3-4 dups of mario paint  )

Updated my Retron 5 and did some more patch testing...

Works

Famicom
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Romancia
Ys

Super Famicom
Bahamut Lagoon
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - Another Story
Brandish 2 - The Planet Buster
Dragon Quest V - Tenkuu no Hanayome
Dragon Quest VI - Maboroshi no Daichi
Final Fantasy V
Kouryuu Densetsu Villgust - Kieta Shoujo
Magic Knight Rayearth
Mystic Ark
Seiken Densetsu 3
Star Ocean
Tales of Phantasia
Ys IV - Mask of the Sun
Ys V - Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin

Game Boy Advance
Mother 1+2 (translates Mother ONLY)

Doesn't Work

Super Famicom
Der Langrisser

For those crazy enough to play Brandish 2: don't use the IPS patch from romhacking.net, I had no luck with that. Seek out the UPS patch elsewhere, that one works.

Der Langrisser almost works. The "translation credit screen" (which appears for a second before the actual title screen) loads but then the game crashes. Header settings make no difference. From what I recall, this translation doesn't play nice with emulators either so I imagined some difficulties would occur.

Overall, I am quite pleased though.

$7 for a legit Emerald Dragon cart or $65 for a unofficial repro. Yeah, it's a no-brainer at this point.

YES! He also added a SMRPG translation! I've been searching everywhere for a Jp to Eng, but had no luck. Now I can translate all of the games I ordered so far. Just gotta wait for them to get here.

Wish I didn't have such an aversion to import versions of games that were also released in the states. Despite it being a difference of nearly $150 when it's all said and done, it just would feel wrong playing the import version of FFIV, FFVI, and CT.

Some games have major differences besides text. Surely you know about the differences in difficulty between Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy II. There's also The 7th Saga vs. Elnard.

But yeah, I hear ya. I try to go domestic when possible, though for a few games I have North American and JPN versions.

Difficulty differences? Not familiar with that, I do know that the US version is at least moderately censored. I take it the Japanese version is harder, since it's from an era where the Japanese developers seemed to think all US gamers were terrible at games?

FF2(4) for the SNES is censored sure, but it also removes the special moves many characters in the game have such as the Dark Wave attack of Cecil, the prayer cure/heal thing Rosa has, etc. There are a lot of dummied out items, a few extra summon spell items. The challenge on it is about 1/3 more difficult in Japan which is why it gets called 'hard type' as the bosses are more aggressive and smart, I think normal creatures are to a point too.

Great. Now I need to own BOTH versions!
