Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
If we are counting Tomb Raider, then I would say Nier is a standout title, quite liked that one.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Bravely Default felt more like an exception than an indication of that company's health as a developer. Now that a sequel has been ordered, I anticipate the usual business approach will apply.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Well...yeah, only because usually the more you break up the code the betterdarsparx wrote: I may not know as much on programming as I should, but usually the less code the better...guess someone in their team forgot that![]()

And also I got the quote wrong:
But the gist of it remains. Fucked up priorities. When he was brought in to fix the original Final Fantasy 14 (a game from which he constantly distances himself: "I was not involved with the original FF14 at all") he perceived what others had not: the game's problems stemmed from deeper issues at Square Enix. During his GDC presentation Yoshida explained that, during Sony's PlayStation era, the company had become "obsessed with visuals". It was a focus that had, he said, harmed its output. As an example of where the development effort had been mistakenly applied, he points out that, in the original Final Fantasy 14, a single flowerpot contained around 1,000 polygons and 150 lines of shader code, "the same amount as the entire player character model."
The same thing that keeps all 3rd party publishers afloat. Blockbuster games with brand names. We might not like their output, but we are not the mainstream audience.Flake wrote:I'm actually not sure what keeps Square floating these days. And come on man, be fair. Square was milking the franchise from way back in the day. I don't mind a Bravely Default sequel, and from what I saw from the first trailer, it doesn't seem it will be much different from the first game.

I very much liked Nier, thought the story was refreshing and the music was awesome. Square needs to get back to taking a chance on new IPS (much like the glory days of the PS1 where they could do no wrong). I say let Final Fantasy die (the newest versions are already a mockery of the genre and older games as it is) and focus on putting out three or four new, quality titles.dunpeal2064 wrote:If we are counting Tomb Raider, then I would say Nier is a standout title, quite liked that one.

Can we first get our Final Fantasy VI 3DS remake please?Retrogamer0001 wrote: I very much liked Nier, thought the story was refreshing and the music was awesome. Well, we're talking Square here. What they're doing with Bravely Default would be considered milking by any other company's standards. With Square, their treatment of Final Fantasy is what I consider to be their standard for milking. Bravely Default isn't there yet but if it suffers too big a success, it will be.ZeroAX wrote: The same thing that keeps all 3rd party publishers afloat. Blockbuster games with brand names. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Just to be clear, are you against Megaman style milking (tons of same-y sequels) or Mario type milking (regardless of the fact that most Nintendo games are very high quality, it IS annoying for me that they feel they need to use the Mario branding on EVERY single game they make (they even wanted to use Mario in Splatoon at first :S)Flake wrote: Well, we're talking Square here. Who would you rather have relations with and why?
Princess Zelda or Princess Toadstool?!
I personally choose Zelda, she is more my type.
