What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

Ah, ok.Ack wrote:It's not a question if if, it's a question of how? Is it worth going back with this particular version versus a different version?TSTR wrote:How is it even a question if Doom & Doom II are worth going back to?
Then unless you haven't played the No Rest For The Living episode, no.
Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Cleared Far Cry. After giving up on it years ago, I finally got a computer that can handle it a little bit better. 10 years ago this game must have been groundbreaking. Amazing graphics, multiple weapons and enemies, more than one way to approach nearly every level, and enemy AI that was more intelligent (but still managed to get stuck behind objects).
I did the last 3 levels in one sitting. After the harder earlier levels, the new weapons you get (OICW, machinegun) make it so much easier to take everything else out.
Deciding on my next FPS now, I still have quite a few to start

Out of curiosity, what games have you got lined up?ExedExes wrote: Deciding on my next FPS now, I still have quite a few to start

This is what I've picked up (or had for a while) in the past year. I needed a better computer to play some of this stuff, and of course GOG's sale got me a lot more this year.Sload Soap wrote:Out of curiosity, what games have you got lined up?
I'll put Chronicles of Riddick first, because that's likely what I'm gonna do next. GOG's verison has the remade original and the Assault on Dark Athena.
Chronicles of Riddick
Duke Nukem 3D
Red Faction
Red Faction II
Serious Sam The Second Encounter
Sin Gold
Full Spectrum Warrior
Full Spectrum Warrior Ten Hammers
Far Cry 2
and what I have on actual discs -
Medal of Honor Airborne
Ghost Recon Gold Edition
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
So yeah I've got many more and I'm sure more to come as I see more sales.

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
A few things:
If I recall correctly, the Full Spectrum Warrior games are actually third person shooters.
If you want a Red Faction, do the first. RF2 isn't nearly as good in my opinion.
More people need to play Medal of Honor Airborne, though I hear it's really picky about what kinds of computers can run it. I've beaten it on PC, but every machine I ever tried it on managed to lag on particular levels.
The GOG release of Duke Nukem 3D is the Atomic Edition if I remember correctly. If you have access to it on Steam, I'd recommend checking out the Megaton Edition instead, as it includes Atomic Edition and the expansions like Duke It Out In DC and Life's a Beach.
You have a lot of fun FPS to play!

Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Yeah, 80% of Red Faction 2 was on rails and somehow, the destructible environments mechanic got worse. One of my least favorite FPS sequels next to Perfect Dark Zero.
The Riddick games are fantastic I thought, but do note that they are somewhat different. They can be very melee based and stealthy, but I really enjoyed that about it. They've even got some Deus Ex like areas with characters to talk to and stuff. Cool unique games.
Far Cry 2 is flawed but I don't think it's as bad as most make it out to be, I mostly have fond memories of it. Just note that the difficulty curve is completely reversed, it starts out really brutal but once you start buying more weapons and have a bigger arsenal, it gets easier and more fun.

Far Cry 2 is easily one of the best FPS of the last gen. It may be the most interesting.

I'm gonna go with Ds on this one, I didn't realize it was considered "bad." I enjoyed it from the little I played.Xeogred wrote:Far Cry 2 is flawed but I don't think it's as bad as most make it out to be, I mostly have fond memories of it. Re: What single player FPS campaign are you playing?
Yeah I can't say I've seen it much here, but anywhere else... definitely seen a lot of that "Eh just skip it and play 3". When I'd probably put them both on the same level, I definitely liked some stuff about 2 more and vice versa.
The first one is the one I don't like haha, just like the Crysis series, these games instantly stop being fun when the monsters/aliens pop up. I'm glad Far Cry 2/3 had different devs.
