First complaint:
My brothers visited for a few hours today, and we decided to relive some old memories with games we played a lot pre-Katrina. Most of it went pretty smoothly.

Donkey Kong Country played pretty freaking poorly. It's hard to explain what was happening, but it was kind of "stuttering". There wasn't any input lag that I could notice, but visually it was kind of "choppy" and"jumpy". Things got a little better once we got to the aquatic level.

Jinx, I've had that same issue with DKC. If you bring up the retron menu (down and start on an snes pad) and then back out, it fixes it on mine, though it starts juddering again every 15-20 minutes or so and I have to do it again. Haven't tried out DKC on my newly repaired unit to see if it's fixed.

Awesome. I'll give this a go tomorrow to see if it helps.

Just ordered Tenchi Sozo, Live A Live, Emerald Dragon, and Wonder Project J. As if my JRPG obsession wasn't already bad enough - the Retron 5 has shot it to the stratosphere.

Also, as I said earlier, I'll test some more patches out once Ys IV is done with. Maybe this weekend?

If there's any in-game issues, the Retron Tech also suggests that you delete every old save or anything from all the SRAM/Snapshot folders. He was walking someone through that who was still encountering Mega Man X issues.

I will say that if you use the Live A Live translation patch, make sure to find the second version. The first one has some...quirks.

So, hope I'm not breaking any rules as these are not ROMs, but some dude on the hyperkin facebook page posted a link to a big mediafire dump full of translation patches he made specifically for the Retron 5, along with a couple of ROM hacks. Included in there is an IPS to turn Star Fox into Star Fox 2 (how the hell does that work?). Also included is a patch to turn Japanese Terranigma into English localized NTSC version. I haven't tried any of these, but I did just order Japanese Terranigma and plan to try out this Star Fox -> Star Fox 2 patch when I get home from work today.

Here's the link: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/b5kjab ... jabm681te5

The downloads aren't working for me at work, but I think we have mediafire blocked here on my network. If anybody else tries these and they work, let me know :-)

Holy shit. Definitely trying this out once my JPN copy arrives.

Star Fox 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. If this works, then I'm totally stoked for this. I lost my copy of Star Fox, so I'll need to pick up another.

I'll give it a whirl when I get home and report back. I asked the dude on facebook how it works, and he said it's a legal gray area at best, so I imagine the Starfox and Terranigma patches specifically involve some sort complete ROM conversion/embedding a different ROM into an IPS patch somehow, so if any mods are uncomfortable with that for any reason, I can definitely take the link down.
