Custom painted consoles

Post by thejamessea »

So after about a week of research, experiments, and success, I'm now a pro at custom painting consoles/handhelds.

Of course, the success of the paint job is going to rely heavily on the tastes of the viewer, so not everyone will like them. But with the things I've learned I can now paint them any color, and with any design scheme I choose. I found a company to supply me with the necessary decals to make the paintjobs look like they came from the factory. Also, I can decal and then clearcoat over the decal in any wild pattern I choose.

Such as having a large Sega logo plastered diagonally over the top shell of a Genesis, or whatever.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions for paint jobs or something they'd like done, let me know.

I've only got this one photo of a Genesis I finished the other day, but as I said, I can make these things look like anything now. This particular system has Hunter Green Texturized Satin paint, factory decals, clearcoat, and two tone buttons and cartridge flap. Thing looks fantastic in person, as long as you like the color.

My next project is going to be a Genesis again, but this time it's going to be a high gloss, smooth-as-glass finish. haven't decided on the color yet.

Then I think I've got to do a DS Lite, white, with the blue Sonic Team logo on the lid. Or maybe paint a Dreamcast in some way... So many ideas.

Can you use automotive paint for the consoles? I would love to have an xbox (original) in "krypton" green! How much would you charge?

I'd only charge what the materials cost. I'm not concerned about a profit because this is fun for me. And yes, I can absolutely paint it the color you want. Let me know if you're interested. These things look fantastic. I'm more pleased with them each time I look at them.

I'm pretty sure Krypton Green glows in the dark. Now that would be wacky!

I'll post more pictures of projects in the upcoming days if anyone's interested in seeing more... ?

The krypton green was used on the Lotus Elise for a few years. I would really like this color with the same black used on the Lotus for accents, I'm a transformer nerd  and my favorite was called "Springer" and these are pretty close (better than) to his colors.

Try it out Corn. If you're going to try your hand at it and want some tips I can help out, or if you want to desgn something and send it to me I'd be happy to help.

I'll post higher res shots next week when I get them all in the same location and on display.

Should be a couple Genesis', a DS, and a couple of other surprises.
