If Romo wins a conference championship, I'll buy him a pizza and a six pack. I'll also write him a poem.

Think the Bears have a punchers chance at the NFC. I really do. That is with a major caveat; if the refs call the games like they did in the preseason.

When I sit down an actually think about it, the running game, or lack thereof, is apparent. I could be wrong, I often am, but the style of play in the NFL seems to be more arena like with each passing year. It's a bit counter intuitive, as the game is supposed to be faster, but with so many yellow flags on the field the game certainly doesn't seem faster (extra commercial time? I wouldn't put it past 'em).

Balanced play doesn't seem to exist, and that's fine with me. I'd just like to see a smashmouthed team that only passes when it is third and long. Don't want to see a qb scramble unless he's running an option, want to see more fullbacks going for a tough four yards, want to see less dirty plays and more clean tackles.

But hey, things change when the season starts. We really need more All Days. A corner route in the endzone is alright, but when a running back breaks through a hole shakes off two defenders and stiff arms a third...that's electrifying

you're saying that about romo but cutler is his clone lol, difference is bears have a glimpse of a defense. i like romo and cutler to have big years.

I think Cowboy and Bear fans would take a SB over a 5,000 yard passing year from the QB. Stats are nice, but winning should still be priority.

true but won't happen with jerry jones. he doesn't know how to put a sb caliber team around romo. drafts to many projects and hype guys and overpays aging has beens. defense has been a problem for years and hasn't been addressed in the draft or free agency. when it did get addressed, mo claiborne with a first rounder, a bust. we'll see but i expect 8-8 again.

You think Jones cares about winning a championship? You don't think he's smart enough to build a team around Romo if he wanted? Jerry cares about six letters = ais, ego. He's about making his team interesting, not champions. If the chips fall and people aren't attending Cowboy games (don't count on it) then he'll pony up, as he can buy the best in the league.

But if you truly understand the mind of a sports team owner...it's rarely about winning. It's about doing at least you can to keep attendance up.

Of course you have owners like "Rocky" Wirtz who seriously shake stuff up, but it's all about the bottom line.

The Cowboys have been on the cusp of not quite there for awhile, so fans keep up hope. He does also 'pony up' quite often, and sometimes too often. There is a salary cap and during the uncapped year he paid too much against warnings and they docked him the following season. Recent NFL success has shown buying teams full of pricey FAs fails. The successful teams draft well, keep their players, and merely supplement with with FAs.

Go look at trends in ticket and jersey sales compared to previous seasons records. White Sox and Cubs are unique as well as other cities that have 2 pro teams. Same thing with Lakers and Clippers. Teams who are winning also get more primetime television matchups.

I said tickets and apparel. I am not sure how you spin what I said into making your point for you...

The Cubs/Sox and Lakers/Clippers are exceptions to the rule.

Winning brings in so much more money. Especially more so when you consider the extra money made from postseason play. Market size also has an impact.

The reality is, the Cowboys are Jones fantasy toy. They are so popular they would need several years of abysmal performance to really start making a hit. Someone who plays GM like he does most definitely wants his team to win.
