Can a V7 PS2 not boot PS1 Backups?

Post by ReddMcKnight »

I have a V7 SCPH-39001 Fat PS2, and for the life of me, I can't get it to boot PS1 Backups. I'm using a Flip Top Lid, and I've tried the Swap Trick AND PSXLauncher .ELF File. Is there something I'm missing?

Yes, but I read that it should work with a Flip Top Lid, and the regular old Swap Trick also doesn't work.

Redd read some of the below and comments.............

also use Nero to burn your PS1 games , IMGburn creates more C1/2 errors than Nero which mean not great burns

Maybe get a PS1?

A risk of ruining your PS2 working the laser harder just to read a burned PS1 game. In addition, the Flip Top is not a good ideal for continually opening due to not any where near as strong as a regular top opener console. Eventually the hinges glued to the lid will give way, the plastic "snap" at the deck will wear out. I only use the Flip Top for installing import games to circumvent the region lock.

Why not just have your system chipped? It would save you a huge amount of hassle and that's what I did for my PS2.

I tried Nero, and that didn't work. It still hung at the PS1 Logo Screen.

I don't know how to install a Chip, or even know where to get one.

your probably better of getting a pre-chipped PS1, very easy to find. Mack used to sell em here before he retired from doing it, I think I paid $40 shipped and it was because it was the mini PS1 version so might be even cheaper. Just ask around.

My PS2 is chipped and the damned thing still won't play ps1 backups. It has Toxic firmware or whatever, so it is the chip that supports that particular software. Actually, I usually disable the chip when booting and go with the mcboot mem card thing. It seems the chip (at least mine) is less robust with the options. Or I just don't know what I'm doing with it, which is entirely possible.
