Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
My local retro store has 6 of these in stock at MSRP. I almost bought a spare LOL

If the IPS matches the game, and game version (if there is one) it will auto-patch the game from Japanese (or whatever) into english before it even fires up on your system.
Basically it negates the need of patching roms, using a flash cart to use translated roms, buying warez ('repro' aka bootlegs) or any other excuse really if you own a R5.
This basically wipes out much of the bitching that's fair to complain about. I mean you have the non-US market people crying over delays claiming their date was June 6th too which I don't recall ever seeing. And of course there's the people within the defect rate with a buggy system or a bad pin connector that was bad or they broke whatever the case that'll whine.
Mine is defective slowly but surely, going to try and mail it off tomorrow. It's starting to flake on reading NES games and I've used it far more for Famicom and GBA stuff so go figure on that one. SMB2 is like it doesn't exist in the slot, Gargoyles Quest 2 mostly misreads as a bad or unknown load, and who knows what else. You don't hear me cursing how bad they suck and how entitled I am that it should be fixed instantly like some star trek replicator/transportation device as I need instant satisfaction or else.

Well said. It's funny how you still hear "UK release date" even on the announcement of the new firmware. But that's nothing new over @ Hyperkin. They've explained that they still have to get the CE standard to even begin to sell in Europe and to do that they have to literally reverse-engineer the Bluetooth chip they used because the chip vendor won't provide the schematics that the CE board requires before they can even begin to consider distribution over there.Tanooki wrote:This basically wipes out much of the bitching that's fair to complain about. If only more people would just go through the return process the right way like you're doing, it seems that they do right by those who actually read the instructions on how to do that, and the new Retron 5s they're getting back work even better. But, Hyperkin always has to be a victim in some way I guess, even once the Retron 5 is available around the world and there is a 0% system fail rate

I don't pay attention to the out of the country complainers because they feel they should have had a global launch instantly, like this is some billion dollar company that can pull it off. I don't remember them ever saying anything outside the US for June, but if they did, bad on them. I never heard about that deal with the bluetooth, europe, and a total tear down because a supplier being an ass about it. I'm not sure where you caught onto that, but people need to start spamming THAT to the hyperkin page along with the email/website of their bluetooth supplier causing the hang up so the right people get ripped up for it.

Gonna try the IPS patching tonight. Been playing Ys IV so this will be a good game to test it with. If I get stuck (which will likely happen) I'll come to this thread for help.

OH HELL YES

It works.
Took a bit of screwing around.
I dunno if it matters, but I renamed the ips file to the same name as the game (I know this is how you do it with emulators like SNES9X).
Also, I had to restart the system (not just reset the game) before the patch was able to be read.
I am so pumped to play these games in English.
Of course it won't help me with my Japanese skills, but I have a bunch of study books for that.

Hmm... I wonder how saves will be handled with the translation patches.
Re: WELL THIS IS INTERESTING.. Retron 5
O_O I think i need a retron now with that ips release...ah well next month maybe if I can swing it(heck that would give me some extra room beside my tv and let me play sega games if I got any anytime soon
). I wasn't going to do it but if I can pull in games we didn't get and do ips on it, sounds more than worth it...now if only it had playstation stuff as well
I'm wondering the same thing...Hope it saves to the cart...jinx wrote:Hmm... I wonder how saves will be handled with the translation patches.

I already had saves with the patched Ys IV cart. They loaded up just fine. I haven't tried to make any new saves, however.jinx wrote:Hmm... I wonder how saves will be handled with the translation patches.

Awesome to hear. I was just a bit worried that it may screw up the saves, but I haven't touched an IPS patch in years and don't remember how they work exactly.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I already had saves with the patched Ys IV cart.
