Death Race.

And this thing I made w/ Sony Vegas. It's basically the Re-Animator trailer with the "Sin City" treatment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWm1MqCOcSo

And I just watched Jackie Chan's Crime Story. Awesome stunt work, as usual. Great ending too. I don't know if I'd say it's better than the first Police Story, but it was definitely an incredible film.

Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I wouldn't really say it's based on the short story by Fitzgerald... but instead the basic theme of the story and maybe the fact it's told through a series of letters/diary entries, and of course the age thing. Other then that though... no.

I don't know what to say though. Personally I'd say, don't waste your money seeing it in the theatre. For the length of the movie it just isn't paced well for theatre viewing. You'll find yourself getting up for a stretch. But at home (where I watched it) it was enjoyable, I got up and cooked a pizza during it and the sort. There are some really funny little quips through out it as well that got some laughs from my brother and I:

"You know, I've been struck by lightening 7 times. One time while I was just driving down the road." ::flash to old school cepia tone scene of a truck getting struck by lightening::

Wait for DVD, or DL, you'll probably enjoy. If you're a David Fincher fan, definitely watch... he's made a LOT of progression from his early work and I have a very good feeling he's going the right way in my book. He's hollywood enough to stay big budget, yet he's art fag enough to have great substance to his films.

Christmas is a time for watching the DVDs/Blu Rays your family all received together!

Rendition
Thought-provoking and frankly frightening film that, while actually a work of fiction, is based around various similar (alleged, though I seriously doubt it doesn't happen) cases of America using prisons outside of its own country to torture suspected war criminals into confession and divulging information. After a suicide bomb attack leaves an American agent dead, the CIA kidnap an Egyptian man who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. His wife fights for his freedom back home, while an agent assigned to him questions the morality of the situation.

I would have preferred a bit more of a deconstruction of the CIA's own morality - I am strictly against torture as a practice, though I appreciate the validity of arguments against my own - as it did blanket portray nearly everyone involved as either black or white with no middle ground. But solid acting, good direction and a frankly incredible twist (seriously, pay attention while watching and see if you can guess) at the end make it worth a watch, if not owning.

The Godfather: The Coppola Blu Ray Restoration
It's the fucking Godfather. One of the greatest films ever made. Even if you dislike it (and there are plenty of reasons to, I cannot deny), its gorgeous cinematography, fabulous acting from Brando et al and a great soundtrack make it a film impossible to not at least respect.

I've seen the film three times now, previously on film and DVD. The Blu Ray version wins hands down. In High-Definition it looks incredible, gaining new clarity and visual pop while still maintaining the artistic blurriness and sepia effect. Another strong argument for Blu Ray as a format. Now give me a Blu Ray restoration of Apocalypse Now: Redux, Coppola!

Another Takashi Miike film, Sukiyaki Western Django. It was a Japanese western, with a cast almost completely made up of Japanese, speaking English. It was...bizarre to say the least. But then again, I really wouldn't expect any less from Miike.

I wanted to be a Teminator but they require you have an armored hyperalloy skeleton and mine's mostly recycled truck tires.

Sorry, but like it says "Inactive accounts are pruned".

Also, a few other trackers for film fans I recommend are:

* Asian DVD Club, an all-DVDR tracker FILLED with Asian films and anime. Also a gr8 source of fansubbed DVDR's (which are just normal DVDR's with fan-made subs added).

* Cinematik, another all-DVDR tracker that caters to those looking for "classic, independent, rare and outlandish films". If you're a member of ADC (above), you get a free invite to Cinematik, but only for a limited time.

Role Models. Laughed all the way through this film. Funny as hell. Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka Fogel/McLovin from Superbad) is excellent as the LARP (or LAIRE in the film) obsessed Augie Farks. Highly recommended.

I'm looking forward to The Wrestler. Can't wait for that to go on general release next week!

Saw Zatoichi this morning. Excellent take on the 'Zatoichi' films. Contrary to what peoples opinion on the digital blood. I quite like it. It's like a flourish and very stylish. Rather than looking realistic I think it works rather well and helps you sympathise with Ichi-san more despite him cutting his way through many many opponents during the course of the film. It's almost like he's an artist painting the walls with elegant strokes of crimson. The cinematography is great too, the action sequences are fast passed with lots of quick cuts but it never gets disorientating like a lot of modern action films do.

I'm currently watching Muppets Treasure Island. I love the Muppets!
