Not sure where I would stick the Luigi game. And I haven't played the 3DS installment, unfortunately.
New Super Luigi Bros U is fantastic. I think it's vastly superior than then entire line of New Super Mario Bros titles.
I highly recommend New Super Mario Bros 2 for the 3DS. It's this really interesting mix of a lot of classic Mario concepts and designs. It feels like a cross between Mario Bros 3 and New Super Mario Bros Wii with a dash of Mario Land 2 mixed in.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Although it was recently deposed by Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing, OutRun remains one of my favorite Sega racing games. (The sense of speed is just phenomenal.) Despite this, however, I never made a real attempt to see what the game has to offer and really learn how to play it. Accordingly, I spent some time with the (excellent) GBA port and - in accordance with Sload Soap's recommendation - raced to the "a", "c", and "e" endings. Doing so did not tarnish my appreciation of the game, but it did make me realize that Out Run is one of the few games that gets easier the further you get into it. (I was much morelikely to crash in the first course, despite playing it repeatedly, than I was to crash in the later courses.) In any event, I am glad that I finally took some time to learn this game, and I look forward to the next time I get to play it on an actual cabinet.
.....
Since it appears that I may have to break out my copy of Sega Ages (SATURN) to play a good After Burner port - the GBA port is shoddy to say the least - I may give the game another run through on the Saturn in the near future (maybe even tonight!).

Kirby's Dream Land 2
Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a fun little diversion. It takes the engine of Dream Land 1 and some of the mechanics from Kirby's Adventure and merges them relatively successfully. It's certainly not as content packed as Adventure, and the pace is much slower too. I really missed the ability to dash.
I addition, the power selection is pretty limited, and some of them basically do the same thing. There's little to distinguish spark from needle for example. The animal buddies that can been teamed up with help make up for this somewhat, but even with each power getting 4 variations there are some obvious 'best' powers - spark, cutter and parasol are much better than the rest.
However, there are plenty of levels to get on with, some fun mini games which are twists on the games boss battles, the music and sounds look lovely for an original game boy game and the game is overall just a lot of fun. Compared to the other games in the series, it's a bit slow and basic, but it's still a great game.
Mega Man 5
Mega Man 5 is probably my 2nd least favourite of the Mega Man games I've beaten (1-6 on NES, 1 and 3 on GB, Powered Up on PSP, 9 & 10 on WiiWare) after Mega Man 3. Unlike my slightly controversial thoughts on 3 though, I feel most people would agree with me on this one. The level designs are easy, which isn't a problem in itself, but they are also boring - the level themes are dull (with the exception of Charge Man's train, I like that one) and underutilised, and the enemies in the stages are pretty easy. The bosses still put up a challenge, but it kinda felt unbalanced in that respect - I'd prefer a harder stage with an easier boss to this way around myself, as the stages are the fun bit imo.
The weapon selection is pretty mediocre, I've forgotten half the robot masters since I beat it last week, and the game had more than a few cheap deaths.
The thing is, the game isn't terrible. It's just there is something about this entry that feels like they really didn't give a shit about it. It feels like a half assed addition to the series, and its just a thoroughly forgettable experience.
Mega Man 6
Now this is better. Mega Man 6 is DEFINITELY the easiest in the series, but it manages to stand out as an enjoyable experience despite it. The rush adapter and jet adapter are fun additions that honestly break the game a little, and yet they're balanced well enough that they don't overshadow the robot master weapons entirely. In fact, this game has some of the most usable robot master weapons in general - interesting and useful effects (not just 'shoot forward'), generally lots of ammo, and reasonably effective against most foes. It doesn't help the games low difficulty, but it does make the game more varied and fun, so I'm down with that.
The level themes are pretty, and once I got that they were based on the countries the robot masters were from rather than their 'theme' necessarily, I thought they were fun places to explore too. A few have split pathways which is nice, but there's always a 'better' path, so it kinda reduces incentive to explore both. The music on the levels doesn't quite match up to the graphics, and other than maybe Plant Man's stage, I don't really recall enjoying any of the tunes particularly. They work, but they're nothing special.
The Robot Master designs are kinda silly and feel like some of the weaker of the bunch, and the robot masters themselves are really easy to beat in this one too. It's a good thing their weapons are OK, or I probably wouldn't remember them too well.
Mega Man 6 managed to be a fun little romp and good finish to the series. The difficulty being easy might be a little disappointing to series fans, but it felt just right for a quick playthrough, and I can imagine it being one I'd come back to over some of the more difficult ones like 1 or 3.
My Mega Man ranking: 9 > 10 > 2 > 1 > 6 > 4 >>>> 5 > 3. One day I'll have to get around to playing 7 and 8.
Next up: I'm working through Final Fantasy X. Maybe a shorter game before then though?
i have the game on the SMS, but what a great game to play on the road so to speak.
It is included in the Sega Arcade Gallery. The OutRun port is fantastic, and the Space Harrier port is OK. The After Burner port is garbage, however (and I can't be bothered with Super Hang On ).

Mega Man 6 has one of my favorite moments in Mega Man level design, where you climb a ladder in Tomahawk Man's level for the halfway point, and there's a sunset in the distance, like time has actually gone by as I was fighting my way through it. That, and I really enjoy the music there for some reason. I get that a lot of the bosses are kind of hokey by the time they got to MM6, but Tomahawk Man and Knight Man are still two of my favorite designs, even if Knight Man is pathetically easy to beat.
If you do end up playing through 7 and 8, just know I consider MM8 to be the worst in the series by far.
Holy crap - can't believe I didn't know about the Sega Arcade Gallery! I thought the GBA just had the Smash Pack. And I'm a pretty hardcore fan of retro compilations.
I have OutRun on SMS, Genesis, and Commodore 64. Never come close to beating it. Seems like there is little room for error in that game.
Dare I say it may end up on my Summer Games Challenge 2015 list.

I shall be picking that one up eventually. It's the only "New" game I haven't played.

It isn't bad once you get the hang of it. (PRO TIP: Lay off the gas pedal and do not attempt to pass other cars during the turns.) I have been through it before, but after spending a little over an hour with it, I can now get through it pretty easily. (I am certain, however, that it would take while for me to adjust to the wheel-and-pedal controls on an arcade cabinet.)

You should also know that the final boss in 7 is the hardest in the series by far.

Thanks for the tips.
I'll try my hand at the game again eventually. I actually really like the C64 port, out of curiosity more than anything. You push the joystick forward to accelerate and pull it towards you to slow.
I've written about it here several times before, but as a young teenager I was terrible at the OutRun arcade game which made me think I would never be able to drive a real car.
btw, you know Space Harrier is the December Together Retro game, right?
