Wartching Shijou Saikyou No Deshi Kenichi OVA watched the series on Netflix a few months back and loved it didn't realize the OVA existed till it popped up tonight on one of the fan sub sites I frequent. Picks up right where the series left off for another 11 episodes :).

Apparently a decent amount of anime was released on UMD. Might grab a few more if I can them locally.
Watched both versions and all the movies my Freshman year in college awesome show :).

One of my all time favorite anime movies.

I want to watch SAO II, but the subtitles just give me a headache. Going to have to wait for English dub. Yeah, I know, subbed is better and such; but I genuinely get headaches from the subtitles. So as for now I am watching Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Gotta agree with you there, I try to watch subs some times and end up only watching a few episodes, taking a break because I have a headache and then comeback and watch some more(only because I want to keep up and know it may be forever until some shows get a dub if ever). With some shows it's getting increasingly hard to keep up with the subtitles, and the action(especially if it's a fast paced anime like SAO gets some times...especially when the subs disappear before I can finish reading :| ). As soon as i get a switch to go with my soundbar(I got for cheap at walmart ) I think I'll be set, especially if I can find a cheap one with about 4 inputs to help ease it when I switch to my roku

Subs are definitely something you have to get used to. After a while you don't even notice them though and there is the added bonus of picking up some Japanese while you watch.

The main reasons I can't stand dubs anymore is a lot of shows don't bother synching the lips up and the original voice actors beat the pants off the replacement Dub actors 99% of the time. Plus thanks to fan subs which are in a legal gray area you can find a lot of newer shows long before they reach the west and there is a lot of stuff that just never makes it here :P.

I'd say it's more that they are trying to match up to the animation that makes a good dub rare. It's less that the English voice actors aren't good in their own right - or that the original VAs are necessarily better performers - but that the animation was based around the script being read in Japanese.

Also why subs tend to be more accurate to the original script.

Well I will say this, I think the funi dubs are pretty close. I know with one piece(and it may not be true) but they said in one of those behind the scenes videos they actually had to go through a approval process for the voices for one piece so I guess it's one point that there's might be accurate to some extent if they go through that for every anime(plus I grew up on their dubs so :P ). I don't think I would've known about anime if it hadn't been for them for 14+ years it feels like...

Glad to see I am not alone on the sub and dub issue. I also have the problem of the sub disappearing before I could read it all. Not that I read slow, but when it comes to subs, sometimes I do... I don't know why. Maybe to process what is being said to what is going on in the animation perhaps?

Depends on who is subbing I've noticed a lot of the Netflix anime have pretty crappy subs :P. The size and color of the font isn't very good on a few of the shows and I find myself having to pause and go back sometimes due to poor timing.

On the other hand there seems to be a good variety of fan subbers out there and the larger sites anime streaming sites tend to weed out the bad ones when posting up new content. Also fan subbers seem to stick closer to direct translations as well which is always nice and some will even provide additional information on the side if there is a cultural reference that a foreigner wouldn't understand.

I think that episodes 76-136 of Hunter x Hunter are pretty poop, but basically everything else is amazing.
The Chimera Ant arc can go pound sand.
I'm on 143 now.
Final Fantasy IX is the best one

Glad there's some out there that don't get it, haha. It seriously is totally left field, focuses way too much on lame new characters, turns into the Gon x Killua show (my favorites are Leorio and Kurapika, go figure...) and yeah. The worst part is how little impact that entire arc has on the series when it's all said and done, it truly feels like filler.

The worst part is that it took 8 years for Togashi to finish that arc in the manga with all his hiatuses. Insane.
