Amiibo's, whose getting them?
Re: Amiibo's, whose getting them?
I think the Amiibo itself doesn't hold code, just a way for the primary device to read that it's sitting on the spot it needs to, then the game in use already has the code inside there ready to be used and unlocked if you show it you bought the little plastic toy. You're buying the key to a car, not the engine or the whole car.

So the whole play using it at a friends house only works as long as they have an internet connection? Never really got into the skylanders stuff so I never really put a ton of thought into how these little guys work

Re: Amiibo's, whose getting them?
The Wii U I bought used came with a bunch of those NFC figurines that pair up with Pokemon Rumble Blast. I tried it out and it was basically the same concept. Wave it over the square on your Game Pad and your guy popped up on the screen with the stats from the previous owner waiting to be leveled up.
Nothing super special, but yeah... I suppose in fifteen years some young adults with disposable income will be hunting them down on eBay to relive the days when they brought 'em over to the neighbor kid's house to play. I couldn't give them away on the forums but eBay ate them up for way more money than I expected.
Either way, they're putting a lot more weight behind Amiibo so it'll probably sell pretty well initially at least.

I'll get the Mario, Link, and Samus just for display purposes.

Skylanders save data onto the figurine itself.
I imagine Amiibo's will do the same.

That's probably what mine will become, to some extent or I'll make sure to keep them where I can see them easily anyways so I don't lose them ha ha, but I bet you aren't the only one.
I still want to see these things in action on my own consoles(even if I have to purchase the "new" 3ds for them on mobile)
My gameroom

A quick web search will give you the answer.
I preordered ten of these. Then a few seconds later, I went ahead and preordered the other two. I figure I'll just buy them all and return the ones I don't want later.
