Amiibo's, whose getting them?
Re: Amiibo's, whose getting them?
Well maybe they are, I don't look that hard and all I've seen lately was the Disney stuff priced in that range Nintendo is using.

To be fair they are at least selling characters we actually care aboutTanooki wrote:Well maybe they are, I don't look that hard and all I've seen lately was the Disney stuff priced in that range Nintendo is using.

Excuse my ignorance but what do these things even do aside from look neat?

They act as USB sticks

Honestly, I just want them for the 'look neat' factor.
They're smash bros trophies. In real life. 13 year old me would be disguested in what he'd become if I didn't buy these.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've read 2 or 3 times now what they do, and I'm still not very clear on the point of them. Do I NEED them? What can I do with them that I can't do without them?
Re: Amiibo's, whose getting them?
They're toys that double down through that RFD or whatever tech it is there setup so it can communicate with specific games and will add some form of data (or unlock what exists in the game) to add to the experience. They unless a specific game like a Disney Infinity is made would NOT be required to experience the title properly.

I'd buy one or two just to try out the tech; I highly doubt I'd go after the whole set... Not very OCD about plastic figures. I don't care about Smash Bros. or Mario Kart though. I'll have to wait and see what other titles will use them.
Re: Amiibo's, whose getting them?
Basically as far as Smash Bros. goes don't they just store data for an AI companion that can be trained in game for use as an opponent/ally that gets stat boosts through experience as you interact with it?

I love the Kirby one. He's just sitting down and chillin.
