Re: What are you playing?
I think Origins and the GBA port are pretty much the same thing. Could be wrong, but I beat both easily.
Never bothered with the NES originals for FF1-2, I just can't get into them. But I have beaten FF3 NES which was still a beast too, so I feel proud about that heh.

I'm currently working on Espgaluda and Super R-Type.
Last night I built a padhack so I could use my arcade stick on my SNES and PC Engine, and it's been such a boost for R-Type. Really enjoying it, my current favorite slow/methodical shooter.

Re: What are you playing?
Been going through Ys Origin, playing as this charming lass. I'm about 65% of the way through, I'd wager. I've really enjoyed this game so far. Honestly I've enjoyed Origin more than Napishtim or Felghana. Here's hoping the end game stays as good.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Re: What are you playing?
I have decided to tackle a series of arcade, 2600, and 7800 games, including
After Burner
Burgertime
Dig Dug
Front Line
Indy 500
Kaboom!
NFL Blitz
Out Run
Sinistar
Spider Man
Tron
Track & Field
Virtua Racing
Zaxxon
Now, I just need to come up with criteria for "beating" them. (For the 2600 games, I am thinking "complete all game modes". For the arcade games, I am thinking "loop the game on a single credit" for games like Dig Dug and "reach the end/final level" for games like After Burner, Out Run, and Tron.) I would be interested in yuour thoughts on criteria for "beating" each of these games, however.

Go to the Chuck E Cheese in Hyde Park in Chicago and beat my high scoreprfsnl_gmr wrote:

I wholeheartedly believe that there are games that you don't beat...you just get better. Grand Prix, Night Driver, Dig Dug, Millipede, Yars' Revenge, and for me at least most fighting games you don't really beat. Sure, you get special endings on a complete wash on SF2, but the points scored and how long it took both factor in.
Touchy subject with gamers, but I say "Beaten" "Completed" and "High Score".
At the end of my life, I don't really care. If someone wants to say they "beat" Robot Tank on the 2600, good for 'em.

Re: What are you playing?
I know. I am going to stop playing them at some point, however, and I would like to develop some level of proficiency with them. Accordingly, I am hoping that the community could come up with some sort of metric for achieving a level of proficiency for each game. Just earning a high score in some games is entirely too easy for some games (i.e., Out Run), while trying to reach the final level in single credit it entirely too difficult for others (i.e., Tron).Luke wrote:I wholeheartedly believe that there are games that you don't beat...you just get better.
.....
Here is the criteria I have for each game right now:
After Burner - complete all 18 stages
Burgertime - complete a six stage loop on a single credit
Dig Dug - complete a twelve stage loop on a single credit
Front Line - capture enemy fort on a single credit
Indy 500 - win all game modes(?)
Kaboom! - obtain 10,000 points
NFL Blitz - complete season/win championship
Out Run - reach end on at least top, middle, and bottom paths
Sinistar - complete void zone
Spider Man - reach the top of the building in all game modes
Tron - complete all four areas in "user" level
Track & Field - gold medals in all events
Virtua Racing - take first place on all courses
Zaxxon - complete a three field loop on a single credit
Thoughts?

Re: What are you playing?
I can't speak for them all but when I've added an Out Run game to my games beaten list, I set my self the goal of going down the left, middle and right most path in a sitting. One path for each music track.
We can't forget that some of these games don't have end states not for artistic purposes but due to short development times and money making purposes, so it's up to us as players to define their ends.

You play Yars' Revenge until you die sir.
Never give up. Never surrender. Never stop thinking "Holy shit! Weaver's boobs are fantastic in Galaxy Quest!"
