Well I just received the Return and Death of Superman on the SNES hoping it would be an awesome beat em up like Final Fight. It is a terrible game and should be on the list of worst Marvel games along with Superman 64.

I'm still annoyed Marvel left Superman and Judge Dredd out of the Avengers movie.

Man, Marvel arcade beat 'em ups were a license to print money. I loved X-Men with the two monitors.

The X-Men Legends/Ultimate Alliance games were an awesome format for the universe. As someone who didn't play RPGs in the same style, this was pretty new to me.

X-Men vs. Street Fighter for PS1 is probably the most hours I've sunk into a Marvel game.

Picked up some good suggestion from the thread. Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction looks awesome.

Ang Lee's Hulk is easily the most compelling Marvel film visually and, as a self-contained narrative, it has few peers in the genre.

Hardly. Everybody knows Howard the Duck is the most compelling Marvel film, and Man-Thing is by far the most interesting, because seriously? Somebody made a movie about Man-Thing?

And that is how you type up a troll list for Marvel games. But seriously now, I'll give a list of Marvel-based games I really enjoyed in no order.

5. Lego Marvel Super Heroes (PS3)
6. X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse (SNES)

10. Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage (SNES)

Again, my list is a bit X-Men heavy, and it was tough not to put a bunch of Capcom fighters on here, so I tried to stick with just one, particularly one that I didn't see other folks mention. My list echoes a lot of what the other folks have said, but I think that's a good sign that Marvel has put out some games that are universally loved. It also means I should someday spend more time playing the Marvel games on other consoles...and I need to play X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Oh, and since you guys have been discussing DC, there are some great DC games...but most of them really are about Batman. DC has put out games about Superman, the Justice League, Swamp Thing, The Flash, Aquaman, Catwoman, Constantine, The Watchmen, and the Teen Titans...and they were most often mediocre at best(and in a few cases considered some of the worst games ever made).

That said, Fables is a DC property, so The Wolf Among Us is a DC game. And The Death and Return of Superman isn't great, but it's not as bad as people think. It just takes studying its mechanics to understand how to abuse them and make things a bit easier. I really like just how powerful it makes Superman feel when I'm throwing enemies into the walls like they were nothing.

No, it's current price is ridiculous. Sub-$20, I'd say consider it, but not $30 like the SNES version goes for.

Good to know. The SNES markup combined with the comic book markup to send that one waaaay past its worth, methinks. Even the Mega Drive version is pricey.

I've been attempting to delve into the non-Batman/Superman DC games lately but there really isn't much there of quality. The Flash GBA game is okay and I'm playing the PS2 Justice League Heroes game which is also okay. But stuff like Swamp Thing and Green Lantern? Ouch.

It's kind of weird how badly served DC characters have been. Injustice turned the corner a bit but its roster is still pretty Batman/Superman heavy. I guess that's to be expected though.

On topic, has anyone played the most recent Captain America game for the 360/PS3? I've heard it's actually quite good.

Death and Return is stupid difficult. It is quite gorgeous, and like Maximum Carnage stays straight on board with the comic (kind of...I mean, of course it will take some artistic liberties).

Cap and the Avengers on the NES gets snubbed wayyyyy too much.

If you are delving in DC games that aren't only Batman and Superman, might I suggest avoiding Justice League Task Force? It's a SNES/Genesis fighting game that is mediocre at best and has some stiff controls. I don't think it's quite as bad as Screwattack claimed(they put it on their 10 worst fighters list...but that list is pretty horrible), but it's nowhere near as good as other offerings on those same consoles.

It's also a hell of a lot easier once you figure this out, as you can destroy enemy spawn points this way, in what I consider one of the coolest mechanics of the game.

Yup, two totally different games.

Death and Return is a lot like the SNES version of batman returns. "Grab, throw, repeat", and then get ready for a boss battle that will drain your health. Supes lazer eyes are also a lot like batman's batarangs as they stall enemies.
