The Wii U Pro Controller is arguably the best controller since the Saturn mk2 pad in my honest opinion. It's phenomenal.lisalover1 wrote:But it's still not quite as good as the Wii U Pro gamepad for FPSs, in my opinion.TSTR wrote:If you're gonna mess with console FPS, then the 360 controller beats the dognuts off the DualShock 3.

Really? I find the instant aim of the Wiimote anywhere on the screen so much faster then analog sticks and even a mouse. 360 and PS3 "catch up" incarnations of the Kinect and Move should have the same results?lisalover1 wrote:But it's still not quite as good as the Wii U Pro gamepad for FPSs, in my opinion.TSTR wrote:If you're gonna mess with console FPS, then the 360 controller beats the dognuts off the DualShock 3.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'm just wondering, has anyone ever played heart of darkness? I've got the pc version(almost wonder if ps version might be better) from a random goodwill pickup back in july and I kinda wonder if it's worth the playthrough...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I find motion controls to be terribly imprecise in comparison to a mouse, and sluggish in general for FPS.CRTGAMER wrote: Really? If looking at a rail shooter, it can be different, because then it's purely point and shoot, instead of slogging a cursor around/etc. The issue I find with FPS is that you tend to have basic movement controls + mouselook (in Quake terms) between the KB/mouse, dual analogs, or nunchuk/motion controller. With other controls, the reticle is mapped exactly to your movements making looking around, circle strafing, and whatnot seamless.
The way I've seen motion controls done in Metroid Prime Trilogy, you can directly aim at stuff, sure, but actually looking around means carefully pointing near the edge of the screen, making it slower for overall movement.
Coupled with something like head tracking VR, things would be very different, but as a combination look/aim control, I'd still say mouse or stick is better.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It's definitely a lot better. Love using it whenever I play Killer Instinct at my friends place. The buttons seem a bit smoother and better too. The 360 controller is definitely great, and they somehow refined it a bit more with the XBone's design.noiseredux wrote:Love the 360 pad. Considering a xb1 pad for the dpad though.
I'd say my favorite controllers are (in no order)
- SNES
- Dualshock/PS2/PS3
- 360/Xbone for FPS
- Wii U Pro (it's like a perfectly evolved SNES controller)
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Important tidbits from PAX (too lazy to make a thread of my own):
1. Bloodborne is awesome. They've really tightened up things to focus on the combat and they seem to be trying to keep things more fluid and active. The health mechanic seems to be that some (might be based on type) of the damage you take is only somewhat taken off, like in MvC. If you can kill the enemy that inflicted that damage quickly enough you get that health back, otherwise it converts to full damage.
2. Smash is Smash. Why do people demoing a new fighter stick to the characters they already know rather than trying the new ones?
3. Gauntlet is good times. They've removed the "everyone has a ranged attack" but replace it with everyone getting a special ability that's useful for taking out packs. It helps differentiate the classes more.
4. Alien Isolation is the real deal. You really do have that tension of being hunted. One time I failed at sneaking and was seen. I ran to a closet and locked myself in, hoping that might avoid it. Then it tore off the door and ate my face.
5. Beyond Earth looks great. They're making a real effort for this to not just be Civ V with a new coat of paint. It definitely is going to be fresh for Civ enthusiasts.
Additionally, I have one beta code for Might No 9 and two download codes for Mighty Gunvolt (8-bit demake of Azure Striker Gunvolt). Note for the Mighty Gunvolt if you get Azure Striker Gunvolt between now and three months from now you get Mighty Gunvolt for free. I'm now taking PMs; in a few hours I'll grab the codes from upstairs and award them to lucky people based on a series of arcane criteria including what my cats think of you.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
My only experience with the wii mote was awful. I was trying to get used to the controls in modern warfare and after about a hour in the tutorial area i decided to stop. Did i choose the wrong game?CRTGAMER wrote:Really? I'd hope not gamers are terrible people and won't be around much longer according to these ten separate articles I read the other day all of which were posted within hours of each other. Anyone that believes otherwise is a fool.TSTR wrote:COMPLETELY UNRELATED RANDOM GAMING THOUGHT:
