I just saw the display of headphones and popped a pair on my head. As soon as I placed them on my ears, all the background chatter in the store stopped. It was actually amazing. They also sounded pretty darn good. I would have impulsed bought them, but they were $300. I wish they weren't so much money because now I want a pair of them.
Yeah that's probably one of the biggest reasons i don't really go to stores like that anymore(unless I have too). I end up impulse buying or wanting to impulse buy something. Heck I went with my dad to get some watches looked at and repaired and they had some ecodrives and I want one but I can't afford a 200+ watch(one of them even cost 635 or something like that)

As someone who used to sell their stuff, my general impression of Bose has always been that they are overpriced and under-featured products. My guess is you can find the same quality at half the price or, instead, spend the same price and actually get something very nice (if you know where to look).

In truth, Bose was a brand that I thought the internet would have killed by now...

They have brand recognition, for one. I mean, Macs are overpriced, but... I can't see how something like headphones can be under featured. In my book, the less features headphones have the better. As far as I know, they mostly just make speakers and whatnot. Speakers don't really have a lot of features.

I've used noise cancelling headphones before, but man, I've never felt so acoustically isolated before. I wanted to get them just for that reason. They were light and dead quiet. I have noise cancelling headphones (tho not quite as cancelling) but they're big and heavy. Definitely not something you'd try to relax in to some music or handheld. They're also pretty flat (which is good for what I use them for). I have smaller, lighter headphones more suited for listening to music with, but they're not noise cancelling.

I'll have to investigate a little. I haven't really been wanting to spend a whole lot on headphones, although I've been wanting to get a new pair for a while now. I'll have to see if I can find a pair as good as those Bose for half the price. I wouldn't mind spending ~$150 on something like that, but not $300.

I don't know, my grandmother has one of their speakers she got ages ago and won't use anything else no matter what...

Same here, I could use a decent pair for work(since i don't want to mess up the pair I was going to use for what little i could output to the onn wireless headphones I did get awhile back. I've just come to realize, headphones among many other things is one thing you can't really skimp on with price usually because otherwise they break too easily...

Macs are a good comparison to a point I think, but in general they are well-regarded as a good brand for what they make even among enthusiasts. Bose, not so much for a lot of their stereo equipment.

This may help, as it is both conscious of the Bose "controversy" and pretty objective in ranking them highly when it comes to noise-cancelling stuff (an area where their products are strongest): http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news ... /index.htm

I've always been underwhelmed by Bose. They have the marketing down...but they don't follow up with quality in my opinion.

So just got to messing around with the case that my heart of darkness was in from goodwill and just realized what the two cards I remembered being in there are for

1 is a mew pokemon card like this:

and the other from yu yu hakusho ghost files tcg. Apparently both are from promo's since that was apparently the only way to get mew at least

This is how you fall down the rabbit hole. I'd love to get those Bose or something as good or even better. I'd enjoy using them with my 3DS and other handhelds, probably my digital piano too. But it would make me wanna get a new sound cart for my PC. On my desktop, I just use the motherboard's on board sound (I have a USB interface for recording, and if I really wanna listen to music it'll be on an actual stereo system). It isn't horrible, but when I'm wearing headphones I can hear all this hissing and white noise. It'd be lame plugging $300 headphones into it.
