There are at least a couple versions of Super Mario 2. One has the middle pins missing and another has all the middle pins (suitable for making a Final Fantasy 3 repro). Maybe one works and one doesn't. Guess I could check, I think I have a copy of both....
Ok I checked both and here's the deal. The one missing the middle pins didn't boot at first, it gave me some kind of power error and didn't recognize. I removed and reinserted firmly and it recognized and booted fine. I then played a bit to test and then quite back to the main menu. I then took it out and inserted the one with all the pins and it resumed my game right where the other one left off. Basically it recognized both as the exact same game regardless of pin configuration.
Hope that helps...

That was nice of you to check that, but no it didn't help.
I think mine has all the pins, too lazy to get up right now as I'm technically 'working' until 10 (80min from now) for a half day before the holiday and i'm going between this and an online training module I need done today.
Last night like I said I did the 'root' restart of the system reinstalling the .22 application fresh, also removed any snapshot data from the system before that, and even before that back stepped the firmware from 2.0b1 to 1.6. Everything is nothing in this case. I'm not getting an undervolt issue, dirty cart issue, damaged cart issue. It just ignores it like nothing was ever put in there and at this rate I'll just have them swap it out as it's annoying and if SMB2 is doing this and Gargoyle's Quest 2 is being bitchy about detecting right when it goes in there when it did before, I see this as a slow cancerous problem I don't want to deal with.

That's why I avoid the problem by having Super Mario Advance 1 & 3. It solves this SMB 2 issue as well as the issues with Yoshi's Island
I have both those original cartridges, maybe I should clean them up and try them.

Only problem is those awful voices they added for Super Mario Bros 2. Toad is especially annoying.ExedExes wrote:That's why I avoid the problem by having Super Mario Advance 1 & 3. It solves this SMB 2 issue as well as the issues with Yoshi's Island

Those never bothered me, but I don't have the games anyway as I really didn't want another copy and with that annoying added in coin collecting thing they hang over your head with a lousy ranking (star) system. I'm good with the 8 and 16bit releases. If I wasn't afraid it was the start of something I"d let it go as a software issue that'll get fixed since I have SMAS, but it makes me nervous.

New 2.0 Beta 2 firmware released. Featuring something that many said could never be done. Hopefully this will stop a lot of these type of comments and it also shows how serious Hyperkin is about this product -
- IPS patch support added (allows application of translation patches, graphic/level hacks etc)
oh yeah, the other stuff -
- Added support for SNES SPC7110 cartridges
- Fixed screen shaking in some GBA games
- File manager is now able to operate on folders (select with long button press) and copy/remove folders recursively
- Misc game compatibility fixes (Fantasy Zone, Sky Kid, Youkai Club)
Remember this is BETA and not official release.

Hah I had no idea that was going public so fast. He told me about it a couple nights ago asking if I had games to test it (which I do.)
Damn people have fun with that, it does show if you ask nicely enough (or whine a lot) stuff can happen.
That screen shaking thing I hope is the GTA issue I found where the longer you run it, the visuals start to ripple and get weird slowly moving up the screen from the bottom. That file manager issue really was needed, now if you could just grab a cluster of files in a directory too that would be great instead of having to delete anything one at a time.

My first thought was "now everybody can shut up"Tanooki wrote:It does show if you ask nicely enough (or whine a lot) stuff can happen.
But look at the progress that's been made. Repros are being supported, IPS patches now beginning support, there's gonna be nothing more to say about how bad Hyperkin is anymore at this rate. Of course we'll still have the people asking about flashcarts, but even that is a grey area I'm sure the company doesn't want to get into.

wait wait wait, now I can load up an IPS patch for my Super Famicom game and play it in English without having to modify the rom? The Retron 5 is now my Christmas list.

Damn this beast requires games to really be clean, huh?
