It's also surprisingly affordable, loose or CIB. I play the original on MAT 2 sometimes.

I initially saw it at a cheap price several months ago on both Amazon and Half.com, mainly for loose, but I waited until later. I looked it up again and then saw a CIB copy for a good price so I jumped on it. Even comes with a Total Carnage poster, which I thought was funny. Not sure if I'll put it up but it is nice to have as a collectible.

I like it thus far. Maybe not quite as much as Super Smash TV, but it's good. Plays mostly the same. Only differences is that you now get to lay bombs near enemies and you get a few different weapons (the blue flamethrower is fucking awesome BTW). However, it seems like you're more likely to die at random ass moments, whether it's due to enemies, obstacles, or the newest obstacle to hinder your progress, the scrolling screen. This could be just me since I've only played it a couple of times, but it seems like it when I have played it. I also don't like how when you die, you can continue, but you have no idea how many continues you actually have, because the game doesn't tell you how many you have. So when you plow through a section and get blown up by a mine and you suddenly get a "game over" you're like "What gives????". Also, no code to grant you extra lives or continues. There is one for level select though.

Playing through Breath of Fire lately. Parts of this game are painfully outdated (the insane encounter rate, the lack of a dash button, the total mess of the menu system), but the visual presentation is fantastic, the auto-battle mechanic is a nice idea that I REALLY wish games like Lufia implemented, and the music is memorable and unique. Really looking forward to finishing this and moving onto the 2nd one.

2nd game is about 100 times better. But beware - there is some missable/irreversible stuff that will effect the ending of part 2.

Yeah if your going to play the Breath of Fire games play the GBA ports, they lowered the encounter rate, has a dash button, and the menus are much better.

Yeah I've read that, and kudos to them for doing that, but I am SNES until the bitter, bitter end.

I believe they already exist. When I was playing BoF1 (actual cart) I was looking into BoF2. There was a hack that I was planning on playing, but I can't find it on RHDN right now for some reason. I definitely remember it having dash added though.

Heh, those encounter rates are usually what turns me off from otherwise great games...
